Gedurende zijn hele carrière was Michaels constante metgezel, werkpaard, canvas en muze een Stratocaster uit 1959 die liefkozend 'Coma' werd genoemd. De kenmerkende Coma Red-afwerking en de permanent marker "Coma"-afbeelding maken hem onmiskenbaar, en de gitaar heeft in de loop der jaren verschillende incarnaties gehad, met een grote verscheidenheid aan pickups, elektronica, hardwareconfiguraties en bruggen.
De versie van Coma die is nagebouwd in de Fender Stories-collectie vertegenwoordigt de gitaar zoals die nu bestaat. Elektronica omvat op maat ontworpen ML Ultra Noiseless Strat hals-en-middenpickups en een custom Wide Range humbucking-pickup in de brugpositie. Hardware omvat een 6-schroefs vintage-stijl Stratocaster tremolo met een 'cold-rolled' stalen blok, een custom ML-spec hals, Fender ClassicGear stemmechanieken en de kenmerkende faded red satin finish op de body compleet met een Floyd Rose route.
