This is a vintage Jazzmaster with a wonderful story! The guitar was purchased in 1963 by the guitarist of the Belgian band The Shunts, who played it until 2023. We’re proud to have this special instrument available at The Fellowship of Acoustics! It’s no coincidence that the Jazzmaster has proven to be one of Fender’s most popular guitar models over the years. Although its design dates back to the late 1950s, its offset body shape still looks remarkably modern. Originally introduced to win over the jazz world, the Jazzmaster was soon embraced by surf rock guitarists. This 1963 Jazzmaster was purchased that year at Parys Flore in Brussels by the guitarist of The Shunts, a band that performed every Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the time. In 1966, the band recorded an EP that was subsequently accepted by the Flemish Professional Association for Radio Distribution and played on several radio stations. A wonderful detail is that both the EP and the approval letter are included, along with a photograph showing the guitar in action in the 1960s!With its beautifully worn Sunburst finish, this Jazzmaster looks exceptionally cool. It features a maple neck stamped “4 JUL 63B” and a veneer rosewood fingerboard with clay dot inlays. A shim has also been installed in the neck pocket to ensure an optimal neck angle for the vibrato system. The guitar was refretted several years ago and is once again ready to be played. The electronics are completely original, as is the tortoiseshell pickguard that houses them. The hardware is also entirely original, although the headstock logo was reapplied in the 1980s after the original had almost completely faded. This Jazzmaster is a characterful guitar in equally remarkable condition, ready to begin a new chapter in its musical story! This guitar has been carefully inspected for condition and playability, then set up to our Gold Standard by a luthier. We make sure it arrives in your hands exactly as it should: sounding its best, playing effortlessly and ready to be enjoyed from the very first note.
