While the sunburst J45 may have long overshadowed its natural-finished sibling in name and reputation, the Gibson J50 has become increasingly appreciated over time. In fact, these guitars are more popular today than ever before, and for good reason. A well-preserved 1950s J50 is always a welcome sight, as they consistently deliver in both tone and character.
By the second half of the 1950s, the model had already seen several key changes, including non-scalloped bracing, a larger pickguard, and the addition of a 20th fret. While the adjustable bridge would become standard in the 1960s, it was already available as an option in earlier years, as seen on this example.
This J50 presents beautifully with strong vintage character and remains remarkably clean for its age. The center seam on the top has been repaired, and there are two repaired cracks on the back of the body with small touch-ups around them. Despite its history, the guitar clearly shows why it has seen plenty of playtime, it simply sounds outstanding. Warm, woody and powerful, this J50 still has plenty of life and inspiration to give.
Comes in a hardshell case with TFOA Passport.
