The L4 CES has a rich history dating back to the 1930s, when Gibson introduced this series as their premium archtop line. "CES" stands for "Cutaway Electric Spanish" and represents Gibson's answer to the growing demand for electric archtops that could be played both acoustically and amplified. Over the years, countless jazz legends and rock guitarists have turned to the L4 CES for its unique combination of resonance and electric capabilities.

This 1997 model embodies everything Gibson is known for in terms of craftsmanship and attention to detail. The flamed maple body provides a lively, articulate sound, while the solid spruce top offers the perfect balance between warmth and clarity. The semi-hollow construction gives the guitar a natural resonance that you can feel both acoustically and electrically, with that characteristic "woody" undertone that only a true archtop can deliver.

The guitar has light wear on the pickguard and the top, along with a few small dings near the controls. Light wear can also be found on the back of the body, and there is some cracking in the finish on the shoulder on the bass side. Furthermore, the gold-colored hardware is slightly discolored here and there, but the guitar looks particularly neat!
