Prince and Mike Oldfield, among others, played an L6S Deluxe.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eAs its name suggests, the L6S Deluxe was positioned somewhat higher in the hierarchy than its sibling, the L6S, launched in 1973. The guitar features a two-piece maple body and a three-piece maple set neck with a rosewood fingerboard and 24 frets. This configuration distinguishes this guitar both visually and tonally from earlier Gibsons, which had a significantly different appearance due to their mahogany bodies with maple tops.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThe model was built in collaboration with Bill Lawrence, who designed the two Tarback humbuckers that give this guitar a bright sound when amplified. Due to its remarkable body shape, the L6S is a guitar that certainly stands out in the guitar landscape, and is derived from the L5S jazz guitar. The guitar looks like a broad and more elegantly rounded Les Paul, but with the thickness of an SG.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThis 1978 L6S Deluxe has naturally been played, but is very well maintained. With signs of play and dings on the body and neck, this guitar is in very good condition considering its age. The tuning machines have been replaced with Schallers, and replacement pickup rings for the slightly warped and cracked ones are included in the case.
