Gibson Super 400 CES Sunburst 1992

This 1992 Gibson Super 400 CES is Gibson's flagship electric archtop, and it carries itself that way. A carved spruce top, maple back and sides, cream binding with multi line purfling, gold tuners and the engraved Super 400 tailpiece give it a grand, elegant look, while two humbuckers give it the warm, round voice that has made this model a favourite among jazz players for decades.

The Super 400 first appeared in 1934, named after its price of 400 dollars at a time when that was a small fortune, and it was the largest and most luxurious archtop in the Gibson catalogue. In 1951 Gibson introduced the CES version, adding a cutaway and pickups so players could reach the upper frets with ease and be heard on bigger stages. Ever since, the Super 400 CES has stood at the very top of Gibson's archtop range.

The carved spruce top responds directly to your pick attack, so the guitar has a clear, woody character even unplugged, while the maple back and sides add focus and definition to every note. Plugged in, its Gibson humbuckers with patent number stamp deliver that rich, rounded jazz tone with plenty of clarity.

This 1992 Super 400 CES is in excellent condition. Over the years a beautiful finish checking has formed across the whole guitar. The body shows some small scratches and little dings that fit the age of the guitar, and the neck shows some light signs of play as well. It comes with a Gibson hardshell case and a TFOA Passport.

This guitar has been carefully inspected for condition and playability, then set up to our Gold Standard by a luthier. We make sure it arrives in your hands exactly as it should: sounding its best, playing effortlessly and ready to be enjoyed from the very first note.
