Guild CE100D Capri Sunburst 1964

The 1964 Guild CE100D Capri hails from a significant era in Guild's history. Introduced in 1956 as one of Guild's first archtop models, the Capri was designed to compete directly with the Gibson ES175. By 1964, the model was undergoing a key phase of evolution: the original single-coil pickups had given way to Guild humbuckers, and the guitar had adopted its distinctive headstock shape, among other features. The CE100D was the dual-pickup version and, alongside the single-pickup CE100, formed the core of Guild's traditional jazz and archtop lineup.

The CE100D is a fully hollow archtop featuring a laminated maple body,16.3 inches wide and 2.75 inches deep—a mahogany neck, and a rosewood fretboard with pearloid block inlays. Its 24.75-inch scale length and Florentine (or "Old World") cutaway provide a familiar playing feel and excellent access to the upper frets. This 1964 model is equipped with two Guild humbuckers—each with dedicated volume and tone controls—and a three-way toggle switch. A rosewood bridge and the signature Guild harp tailpiece round out the classic construction.

Built in 1964, this Guild is an instrument that has clearly seen some action. It has been oversprayed with a relatively thick layer of clear lacquer, which is quite noticeable in places. On the back of the body, the sunburst finish along the edges has been darkened again, though unfortunately, this was done in a somewhat makeshift manner.

However, the guitar retains plenty of original parts; The pickguard, tailpiece, and bridge are original, but the tuners have been replaced with Schaller units. The frets show clear signs of wear, and the guitar could benefit from a refret in the near future. However, it is currently in playable condition and sounds exactly as you would expect from a vintage Guild: amazing!
