Gibson Custom Historic 1956 Les Paul Goldtop VOS 2006

This 2006 Gibson Custom Historic 1956 Les Paul Goldtop VOS is a wonderful take on one of the most iconic electric guitars ever made. Its gleaming gold finish and a pair of P90 pickups give it a look and sound that take you straight back to the mid fifties, and the VOS treatment gives it the subtle, played in character of a guitar that has been around for a while.

Gibson introduced the Les Paul in 1952 with a gold finish on the top, and in its early years the guitar was fitted with P90 single coil pickups. It was not until 1957 that humbuckers took their place, which makes the P90 equipped Goldtop the voice of the very first generation of Les Pauls. With its Historic series, the Gibson Custom Shop set out to recreate these guitars as faithfully as possible, and the VOS finish gives them a softly aged look rather than the shine of a brand new guitar.

The P90s are what make this guitar so special. With their wide, flat coils they sit somewhere between a classic single coil and a humbucker, giving you a fat, punchy tone with a growling midrange and plenty of bite. Played clean, they sound open and expressive, and when you turn up the gain they snarl and break up in a beautifully raw, dynamic way. It is a sound that works just as well for blues and rock as for anything in between, and it reacts to every change in your touch and volume knob.

This 2006 Goldtop is in excellent condition. The finish is just starting to form a very light checking, and there are some signs of play in the form of small scratches and dings. The back shows a fair amount of buckle wear and genuine signs of play. It comes with a hardshell case.

This guitar has been carefully inspected for condition and playability, then set up to our Gold Standard by a luthier. We make sure it arrives in your hands exactly as it should: sounding its best, playing effortlessly and ready to be enjoyed from the very first note.
