Before Martin introduced the D-28 with a 14-fret neck in 1934, the model had already been available for three years in a 12-fret configuration. With this D-28 Authentic, Martin's Custom Shop takes us back to 1931, the first year in which this model was produced. The guitar features a Madagascar rosewood body paired with an Adirondack spruce top, resulting in a truly beautiful tone that never gets tiring to listen to. Because the neck, and therefore the bridge, is positioned further towards the center of the body, the guitar delivers an enormous bass and midrange response, resulting in a rich, powerful, yet balanced sound. Thanks to its wider neck, the guitar is particularly well suited to fingerpicking. The V-shaped neck profile gives it a very distinctive playing feel that has made this type of neck a favorite among many guitarists. The body is adorned with ivoroid binding and herringbone purfling, complemented by the characteristic rosette and tortoise pickguard. The ebony bridge features a long saddle, while the ebony fingerboard is fitted with short-pattern abalone inlays. The slotted headstock is finished with a beautiful rosewood headplate. This 2013 Martin D-28 Authentic 1931 12-Fret is in very good condition. It is clear that the guitar has been well cared for, although after 11 years it has naturally picked up some signs of use. There are various small scratches and dents scattered across the body. Some signs of wear are also visible along the binding; in several places, the binding has been reglued to keep it neatly in place. The guitar comes in a case with a TFOA passport. This instrument has been carefully inspected for originality, condition, and playability, and has been professionally set up by a luthier according to our Gold Standard setup. We make sure it arrives at your home exactly as it should: sounding perfect, effortless to play, and ready to be enjoyed from the very first note.
