Martin HD40 MK Signature Mark Knopfler 2002

This Martin HD-40MK is a limited-edition signature model developed with Mark Knopfler, capturing the essence of the guitar that helped shape his sound. Built in 2002 and finished in natural, it pairs solid Indian rosewood back and sides with a beautiful solid Italian spruce top for a rich, powerful and detailed dreadnought voice.

Created in collaboration with the Dire Straits frontman, the HD-40MK is a refined take on Martin's classic herringbone dreadnought, dressed in elegant Style 40 appointments with abalone and pearl trim. The Italian spruce top with forward-shifted scalloped X-bracing gives it a wonderfully open, dynamic response, while the interior label carries Mark Knopfler's own signature. This example is number 25 of just 251 built worldwide, making it a genuine signature-model collectible.

That rosewood and spruce combination, together with the forward-shifted bracing, delivers everything you want from a great dreadnought: deep, resonant lows, sparkling highs and superb projection, with the note separation and clarity that make it as rewarding for fingerstyle as for powerful strumming. The comfortable V-profile mahogany neck, ebony fingerboard and 16" radius make it a genuine pleasure to play.

This HD-40MK is in very good condition and has clearly been well cared for, though it shows some honest signs of use. There is a ding on the top, quite a few scratches on the pickguard and some light marks on the back. None of it takes away from its beautiful tone or looks. It is fitted with quality Waverly tuners and comes complete with a hardshell case and a TFOA Passport.

This instrument has been carefully inspected for condition and playability, then set up to our Gold Standard by a luthier. We make sure it arrives in your hands exactly as it should: sounding its best, playing effortlessly and ready to be enjoyed from the very first note.
