Michael Kelly Hybrid Special Spalted Maple 2023

The Michael Kelly Hybrid Special is a striking semi hollow electric with a genuine dual personality, here topped with a gorgeous spalted maple top. This 2023 example blends magnetic and piezo pickups in one instrument, letting you move between electric and acoustic voices at the turn of a control.

Built around a chambered mahogany body with that spalted maple top, it is light and resonant at just 3.0 kg, with a lively, airy character thanks to the semi hollow construction. The mahogany neck with its rosewood fingerboard, comfortable C profile and 12" radius feels warm and familiar, while Grover tuners keep it locked in. The spalted maple top, with its unique natural figuring, makes every example truly one of a kind.

As the Hybrid name suggests, this guitar combines a pair of humbuckers with a piezo system built into the bridge. A piezo blend control lets you mix in acoustic flavoured tones alongside the magnetic pickups, and together with the volume, tone and two three way switches it offers a huge palette of sounds, from full electric humbucker warmth to bright, acoustic like textures, all from a single guitar. It is a wonderfully versatile instrument for the studio or the stage.
