Nik Huber needs little introduction among those who follow the world of high-end electric guitars. Working from his workshop in Germany, he has built a reputation as one of the most respected luthiers of his generation, and every instrument that leaves his bench reflects an almost obsessive attention to detail. This Redwood, finished in a breathtaking Tigereye Burst, is a perfect example of that pedigree.

The first thing that draws the eye is the top. Carved from an exceptional piece of flame redwood, it shows the kind of deep, three-dimensional figuring that comes along only rarely, and the Tigereye Burst finish lets every ripple and flame play with the light. Faux natural redwood binding frames it beautifully, while mother of pearl crown inlays and ebony knobs complete a look that is both elegant and understated.

Tonally, the Redwood delivers. A pair of Häussel humbuckers, a Vin in the neck and a Classic in the bridge, both under gold covers, sound exceptional, moving effortlessly from warm, vocal cleans to punchy, articulate drive. A master volume and a push/pull master tone for coil tapping, paired with a three-way toggle, keep the controls simple while opening up a broad palette of single-coil and humbucking voices.
