With the Standard Legacy, Suhr breathes new life into the guitar John Suhr built for himself in 1984: an okoume body with a flamed maple top in Burst Gold, gold hardware, active EMG pickups, and an Original Floyd Rose. Pure '80s spirit, executed with impeccable craftsmanship!

Before founding Suhr in 1997, John Suhr built the legendary Pensa-Suhr guitars at Rudy's Music in New York during the 1980s, instruments played by artists including Mark Knopfler. The very first guitar he designed for himself in 1984 became the blueprint for those creations, and it is this very instrument that inspired the limited-edition Standard Legacy. The combination of a bound maple top, black-finished headstock, and gold hardware is therefore not a stylistic trend, but a faithful tribute to that era.

Beneath its classic appearance lies a guitar that is purpose-built for performance. The maple neck features an Even Slim C profile and an Indian rosewood fingerboard with a compound radius from 10" to 14", making chord work in the lower registers just as comfortable as effortless lead playing further up the neck.

An EMG 85 in the bridge delivers a tight, powerful, and completely noise-free tone, while the two EMG SA pickups in the neck and middle positions provide brighter, more bell-like sounds. The recessed Original Floyd Rose tremolo is mounted into the body for exceptional tuning stability, even under the most demanding use. This guitar comes complete with a TFOA passport, spec sheet, and case candy in a hardshell case.

This instrument has been carefully inspected for originality, condition, and playability, and has been professionally set up by one of our luthiers according to our Gold Standard setup.
