Paul Reed Smith

PRS Guitars is a well-known American manufacturer of both electric and acoustic guitars.

PRS was founded in 1985 by Paul Reed Smith. The factory has been based in Stevensville, Maryland since 1995. In this factory the instruments are almost entirely hand-built, making the quality of the guitars very good. PRS also partners with a factory in South Korea, where the cheaper SE series is made.

Why PRS?

Two of the world's greatest guitar builders, Gibson and Fender , are known for their own and almost opposite sound. Where Fenders are seen as clear in tone and cool in sound, Gibsons are simply warm and rich, with a deep and dark sound. PRS is designed to unite the best of these two extremes: PRS tries to make a clear and warm sound, combining this with a push/pull split-coil system they are very versatile guitars.

The two biggest sources of inspiration for PRS were the Gibson Les Paul Junior and the Fender Stratocaster. PRS became known when Carlos Santana appeared on the stage with a PRS for the first time. He has not played without one ever since.

PRS also makes very good acoustic guitars, with signature models for famous players like Tony McManus, Ricky Skaggs and Martin Simpson. Check out these amazing instruments at TFOA now!
