Fender The Strat Candy Apple Red 1981
With the start of the '80s, Fender presented a new model, designed by chief of R&D Gregg Wilson with the help of Dan Armstrong, at the NAMM. With The Strat, Fender tried to combine the characteristics that made this model famous in the past with a few modern improvements.
Some construction features returned to pre-CBS specs, including the four bolt neck joint, smaller headstock, and removal of the bullet-style truss rod adjustment.
Some new features also debuted with this model. An added two-way rotary selector replaced the lower tone control and was wired for more pickup switching combinations, nine in total. It also featured a hotter bridge pickup which Fender called X-1.
This Candy Apple Red The Strat from 1981 shows all these features in full glory! It has some playwear and a couple of chips, but it looks very clean for its age. It is still in excellent condition and comes in a hardshell case.
