Gibson J45 1942 Legend Prototype sunburst 2006

This Gibson J45 Legend Prototype was destined for the Japanese market and it is one of the finest recreations of a prewar J-45 that Gibson has issued. One of the very first Legend’s for the Japanese Market, initially ordered by the Japanese distributor-dealer Yamano Music. These are meticulously built and are very much like an authentic 1940s J-45, light in weight and have that bone dry prewar sound and volume. It is build out of select Honduras Mahogany for the back and sides with an Adirondack top and Adirondack braces, fully hot hide glue constructed.

It has a hand filling ’42 style ‘bat’ neck out of honduras mahogany and for the fretboard Madagascar rosewood was used to add a vintage-like dark edge to the sound. It has appealing créme/black bindings and a créme-black-créme rosette, bone nut and saddle and a distinguishing teardrop shaped firestripe pick guard. Placed over the finish, and not under, to prevent shrinkage issues. This Gibson J45 Legend Prototype is in excellent condition, it has some pick wear, a group of some dents on the bass side lower bout and the pickguard seems to have been replaced which has resulted in some light wear. Travels in a newer Gibson case.
