Martin D18 1956
This D18 has had some maintenance in its life, so that it is now, after more than 65 years, still very playable and in good condition. The top has had an overspray, as has part of the side of the body on the treble side and part of the neck. Other work on the top is the bridge that has been reglued, a piece of the X-brace has been repaired and one side tone bar has been replaced.
The low E and A strings are still kept in tune by Kluson Single Line machine heads, while the other strings are fitted with period correct machine heads. There are also two patches on the side that indicate that pickups were once installed. Finally, three cracks have been repaired; one on the top, one on the side and on the back of the body.
This is truly a quintessential vintage mahogany dreadnought that is hard to put down when you hear its fundamental and characteristic tone. Since 1956 this Martin D18 has developed impressively and the result is a great sounding guitar; very direct and warm with a large projection.
