Rickenbacker 335 Mapleglo 1966

The semi-hollowbody Rickenbacker 330 stormed onto the scene in the '50s and brought with it a jangly tone that would help define pop music for a decade. The Rickenbacker 335 was the same as the 330, only with a vibrato tailpiece. Like most Rickenbackers, the 330 and 335's popularity was propelled by the Beatles (though George's most iconic Rickenbacker was actually a 360-12).

This Rick is the 335 model and is finished in a rare Maple Glo finish. The 335 (and its brother) features a longer scale length of 654 mm, which was and is still quite unusual. The semi-hollow body is made of solid maple back and sides and is paired with a 3-piece maple/walnut neck. The open and airy sound is amplified by the unique Toaster-pickups and give it that typical '60s jangle that the newer reissue just can't deliver. This 335 is in good condition with traces of use across the body and some light bucklerash on the back. The solid maple top makes the guitar a bit more fragile than guitars with laminated tops, and this one has two repaired cracks, which probably come from the screwed down pickguard. Don't forget that this guitar is already 50 years old and has led quite a live before it came to us.
