Manuel Contreras II 1a Especial 1995

Manuel Contreras began the study of guitar making while working in the Ramírez workshop in the late 1950s. However, with a desire to build his own instruments, he set out to start his own business. Always an innovator, Contreras began to create a number of unconventional instruments as well as the more traditional Spanish style guitar. His best-known innovation is the "double-top" design, which was developed in the early 1970s and continues to be in great demand today. The Contreras workshop is currently run by Manuel Contreras II, who continues to create guitars with the same quality, craftsmanship and innovation passed down to him by his father.

This is the top of the line concert Contreras II guitar known as the 1a Especial, it was built in 1995. 1a stands for primera which means first class. It features stunning, highly figured Rosewood back and sides and perfectly quarter-sawn red western cedar. This guitar has a big bold sound that can fill any concert hall and has been used by many performing musicians in concert with an orchestra. Playability is excellent due to a shallow neck and excellent action. It has excellent clarity and great warmth typical of the best guitar makers from the Madrid school since the 1950s. Condition is excellent with angelhair wear, no structural issues, superb tone and travels in the original hiscox hard shell case.
