John Walker Wise River J-45 1930s sunburst Recent

Recent John Walker "Wise River" Slope Shoulder Dreadnought with adirondack Red spruce top and Honduras mahogany back and sides. John Walker is a luthier from Montana who used to work together with Ren Ferguson in the Gibson Custom Shop in Bozeman, Montana. For the incrowd, his name is just as legendary as Ren's. These days he builds beautiful flattops under his own name. His guitars are named after rivers he used to swim in, fished in or visited. The picture on the label inside the guitar was painted by his grandfather, it's called "Natures Wonderland" and was painted in the 20's.

This "Wise River" has got a great 30's style sunburst, Waverly pre-war style open backed tuners with ivoroid knobs and a traditional firestripe pickguard. The bridge and fretboard with small dot inlays are made from ebony as are the bridgepins and the endpin. The non-bleached nut and saddle are a nice extra cosmetic accent. The sound of this guitar with short scale length and combination of Honduras Mahogany and Adirondack spruce is powerfull, not to boomy, strong mid-range and a fantastic high end perfectly suited for accompanying singing. Of course it is a hide glue construction throughout and the guitar is very clean, close to near mint, except for minimal pickwear, and a few tiny dings in the lacquer near the center seam on the back. Scale length is 24 3/4" (628mm), the nut width 1 3/4" (45mm). This guitar travels in a HSC.
