Noemi The Wedge custom Ziricote-Cedar

Noemi Schembri was born in San Cataldo, Italy in 1983.  This young luthier has always been pre-occupied with wood and guitars. In 2011, Noemi moved to Canada learned the trade from master luthier Sergei De Jonge at his workshop. Sergei always says - she was one of the most talented students ever! We took the gamble and ordered a few beautys of the young and very talented Italian maker, and man he was right, what a great guitar it is. She finished both steel and nylon string guitars, worked on her own creations, and further refined her techniques and the Sergei de Jonge style clearly reflects in her guitars.  The Wedge is very much like Sergei's Standard, between OM and Dreadnought, powerful and very balanced!

This is the second instrument we have had the pleasure to receive from Noemi, and it's based on her "The Wedge" model. The name of this model is inspired by the unique wedge shape construction of the body whereby the body depth on the treble side is slightly deeper than on the bass side. The Wedge is actually slightly bigger than the Baby Dreadnought, but the wedge body makes it very comfortable to play and it feels much more smaller than it is. All Noemi's guitars are built to have a perfect balance between bass and treble which this instrument certainly has, but it also has a unique "elegant" character with plenty of warmth, richness and a pleasant attack. Good for strumming, but perfect for flat picking or fingerstyle.

The body of this guitar is crafted out of lushious Ziricote Rosewood back and sides with a perfectly Matching Cedar top, actually inspired on one of the best sounding Lowden ever made, the Richard Thompson model - The Wedge is tastfully bound with mahogany bindings and a maple/rosewood trim on the top. The finish on the body is Shellac French Polish, an extremely time consuming proces and a true telltale sign of a masterbuilder when it's done this well. Other features include a mahogany neck with ebony fretboard, ebony bridge, clear pickguard to protect the delicate finish, Ziricote rosewood headstock over- and underlay both with maple laminate and Gotoh tuners. This instrument bears all the hallmarks of a high end, boutique instrument. Every minute detail has been carefully thought out, and you'll fall in love with it's great looks and magnificent tones the first time you touch it. Includes hardshell case.
