Hans Raab Wiener Model 1916

This is a 1916 instrument made by Munich builder Hans Raab. Hans Raab (Sr. & Jr.) was an extremely succesful father/son run shop located in Ansbach and Munich, Bavaria. They were roughly contemporary with Herman Hauser I from about 1885 until around WWII. And this Wiener modell shows great similarity with Hermann Hauser's Wiener modell in quality, tone and appearence. They were highly respected luthiers known for making superb instruments, excellent workmanship and large catalogue of every possible design from six strings, such as this one, through other types of stringed instruments. Their work is highly representitive of the Munich school. This beauty has a bright rich voice with big volume, excellent sustain and nice, round basses. It has a nutwidth of 47mm and scale length of 630mm. Hans Raab instruments are difficult to find these days as players and collectors are reluctant to part with them. Condition is very good, the top has seen a refinish, the ebony bridge is newer, the top contains one small repaired crack, frets are newer, otherwise very clean with relatively few signs of use.
