En dan die klank, wauw!","content":"<p>Cocobolo, of <em>Dalbergia Retusa<\/em>, is een ge-wel-dig klankhout. Het is overduidelijk familie van het veel gebruikte Indisch Palissander (Indian Rosewood) en biedt veel van dezelfde eigenschappen, zoals mooi, helder hoog en diep laag en combineert dat met de heerlijke, natuurlijke galm die past bij palissander. Cocobolo doet dat z\u00e9\u00e9r krachtig en uitgesproken, sommige gitaarbouwers vergelijken het daarom wel eens met Koa, andere bouwers zetten het zelfs op \u00e9\u00e9n lijn met Braziliaans of Rio palissander en dat is de heilige graal van klankhout. Dat laatste is misschien wat veel eer, want ieder stuk klankhout is weer net \u00e9ven anders, maar we hebben hier verschillende cocobolo kanonnen voorbij zien komen, waardoor we de vergelijking wel snappen. En dan die looks! Soms oogt cobobolo bijna als \u2018gewoon\u2019 palissander, maar als je een beetje geluk hebt, vind je cocobolo met hallucinerende rood\/oranje patronen afgewisseld met donkerbruin en gitzwart. Waanzinnig!<\/p>\n<p><img src=\"https:\/\/cdn.webshopapp.com\/shops\/179375\/files\/411162111\/martin-cocobolo.jpg\" alt=\"martin cocobolo\" width=\"600\" height=\"1371\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Of hele fraaie \u2018sapwood\u2019 tekeningen, zoals op deze van McNally.<\/p>\n<p><img src=\"https:\/\/cdn.webshopapp.com\/shops\/179375\/files\/411162109\/mcnally-cocobolo.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"900\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Cobobolo laat zicht verrassend goed combineren met bijna alle houtsoorten voor het bovenblad. Koppel het aan sitka sparren en dat mooie heldere hoog en diepe laag krijgt er vriendelijke, warme middentonen bij voor een fraaie balans. Voeg er een krachtig Adirondack bovenblad aan toe en zo trap je het gaspedaal van cocobolo nog wat dieper in. Lowden is \u00e9\u00e9n van de eerste grote bouwers die cocobolo op waarde wist te schatten en koppelde het tropische hout aan het zoete geluid van ceder en cre\u00ebert zo iets magisch.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/ahV6wrtC0SI\"><iframe src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ahV6wrtC0SI\" width=\"600\" height=\"336\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Ook wat gitaarmodellen betreft kan je met cocobolo heel veel kanten op, het geeft kleinere modellen wat meer diepte en de wat grotere jongens iets meer \u2018oempf\u2019 en sprankeling. Fingerstyle gitaristen zullen cocobolo daarom zeker weten te waarderen, want het volume, gecombineerd met een zeer directe respons en lange sustain, zorgt ervoor dat de noten bijna van een akoestische cocobolo-gitaar afspringen.<\/p>\n<h2>Beschikbaar maar bewerkelijk<\/h2>\n<p>Cocobolo groeit in heel Midden-Amerika en dan met name in en om Mexico, het wordt daarom ook wel Mexican Rosewood genoemd, maar dat klopt dus niet helemaal. Door het fraaie uiterlijk is cocobolo zeer gewild in de meubelindustrie en daar gaat het overgrote deel van cocobolo aan op. De gitaar-industrie vormt daar slechts een fractie van. Door de populariteit zijn er de afgelopen jaren door heel Midden-Amerika steeds meer herplantingsprogramma\u2019s ontwikkeld en dat garandeert gelukkig de beschikbaarheid van cocobolo voor de komende jaren.<\/p>\n<p><img src=\"https:\/\/cdn.webshopapp.com\/shops\/179375\/files\/411162113\/lowden-cocobolo.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Veel gitaarbouwers roemen de klank en de looks van cocobolo, maar de structuur en olie-rijke houtpori\u00ebn drijft ze soms ook tot wanhoop. Soms een beetje brokkelig en lastig te schuren, niet eenvoudig te lijmen en af te lakken. \u00a0Die bewerkelijkheid zie je terug in de prijs, want cocobolo is niet goedkoop. Als je goed kijkt \u00e9n luistert zie je die achtergrond terug in zijn gitaren, want wat uiterlijk betreft hebben ze wel iets Frans: ingetogen en elegant. Als je er op gaat spelen, horen wij die rijke, dromerige en mystieke klanken die we kennen van andere Noord-Ierse bouwers. Deze optelsom maakt de gitaren van Andrew Lowry uniek.<\/p>\n<p><img src=\"https:\/\/cdn.webshopapp.com\/shops\/179375\/files\/404978659\/andrew-lowry.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"388\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Alles zelf<\/h2>\n<p>Op een steenworp afstand van Lille doet Andrew Lowry \u00e1lles zelf: van het ruwe houtwerk tot en met de laatste laklaag. Zoals hij zelf zegt: \"A flawless finish is essential for a high-end custom-built guitar, and I take great pride in doing such an important part of the process\".<\/p>\n<p>Inmiddels heeft hij een indrukwekkende houtvoorraad aangelegd en bewaart hij het klankhout onder ideale omstandigheden. Vaak ligt het klankhout jaren te 'rijpen' tot het perfecte moment om het verder te gebruiken. De Braid is het kleinere model en dit is Andrew's unieke interpretatie van 00 met een wat ongebruikelijke 13 frets hals voor de perfecte lagere tonen. Klein en zeer comfortabel om urenlang op te spelen.<\/p>\n<p><img src=\"https:\/\/cdn.webshopapp.com\/shops\/179375\/files\/404977805\/lowry-carrick.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"937\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Het model Carrick is een slag groter, laat zich het beste vergelijken met een OM en dankzij de rijke overtonen gemaakt om op te fingerpicken. ","content":"<p>Met dank aan onder meer Taylor is een mooi klankhout terug van nooit helemaal weggeweest: koa. Dit tropische hardhout groeit alleen in Hawaii en de muziek die daar vandaan kwam, was in de jaren \u201920 van de vorige eeuw even razendpopulair. Grote gitaarbouwers uit die tijd speelden daar handig op in, dus maakte ook Martin een <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tfoa.eu\/nl\/martin-018k-koa-12-fret-1931.html?sqr=018k\"><strong>serie 018 modellen, helemaal van koa.<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><img src=\"https:\/\/cdn.webshopapp.com\/shops\/179375\/files\/408552938\/martin-koa.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"1371\" \/>.<\/p>\n<p>De Hawaiiaanse muziek raakte daarna wat uit de mode en zo raakte koa ook wat meer op de achtergrond bij gitaarbouwers. Gelukkig verdween het niet helemaal uit beeld, want onder meer voor een typisch Hawai\u00efaans instrument als de <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tfoa.eu\/nl\/folk-bluegrass\/ukulele\/\"><strong>ukelele<\/strong><\/a> is er altijd dankbaar gebruik van gemaakt. \u00a0<\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/uzGGdhgF4BQ\"><iframe src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/uzGGdhgF4BQ\" width=\"600\" height=\"336\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/a><\/h2>\n<h2><strong>Mooi klankhout<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Koa is een heel interessant hout om instrumenten mee te maken, ten eerste dankzij de wilde en unieke tekeningen in het hout: golvend als een fijne surf-spot bij Honolulu. Dat alleen al geeft iedere koa gitaar een volstrekt eigen en uitgesproken gezicht. Daarnaast biedt koa een rijk, warm geluid met een kraakhelder, sprankelend hoog. Het laag is er al vanaf het begin, maar het mooie van koa is dat juist dat deel van het geluid zich verder ontwikkeld door de jaren heen. Dat maakt dat een gitaar van koa je ook na jaren nog kan verrassen met een steeds diepere sound.<\/p>\n<p><img src=\"https:\/\/cdn.webshopapp.com\/shops\/179375\/files\/408552935\/koa-tone-profile.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"420\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Bron: Taylor<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Daarnaast heeft koa eigenschappen, die je als speler misschien niet direct hoort, maar w\u00e9l voelt. Waar het ene klankhout heel direct kan reageren op hoe je speelt (zoals <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tfoa.eu\/nl\/blogs\/blog\/zo-mooi-klinkt-maple\/\"><strong>esdoorn<\/strong><\/a>), kan een ander klankhout (zoals palissander) dat effect wat meer dempen en is het hout iets meer de baas. Koa zit wat dat betreft heerlijk in het midden. Speel je hard, dan beweegt koa door de hoge aanraakgevoeligheid wel met je mee, maar het zorgt er ook voor dat je niet zomaar de bocht uitvliegt, want je hoort naast de speler \u00f3\u00f3k het hout.<\/p>\n<p>Geen wonder dat boutique builders over de hele wereld koa nooit helemaal zijn vergeten. Luister bijvoorbeeld maar eens naar deze Thompson 12-fretter in de handen van Leif de Leeuw.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/_4TxsYIQf00\"><iframe src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/_4TxsYIQf00\" width=\"600\" height=\"336\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Gitaarbouwer Santa Cruz verzamelt al jaren het meest exclusieve klankhout van over de hele wereld, met daaronder ook eeuwenoud hout uit onder meer Alaska en Nieuw Zeeland. In dat rijtje van sublieme houtsoorten past ook \u2018vers\u2019 koa.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/SNZfUB3-oPg\"><iframe src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/SNZfUB3-oPg\" width=\"600\" height=\"336\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Taylor loves koa<\/h2>\n<p>Gitaargigant Bob Taylor ontdekte jaren geleden al de unieke kwaliteiten van koa, maar was door beperkte beschikbaarheid wat spaarzaam met het gebruik ervan en koos ervoor om eerst flink te investeren in de aanplanting \u00e9n ontwikkeling van koa. Die beslissing werpt nu vruchten af, want we zien steeds meer fantastische Taylors met koa voorbij komen: van de absolute top builders editions, tot en met die geweldige mini Taylors.<\/p>\n<p>En sinds kort zijn daar ook twee modellen in de 7-serie aan toegevoegd met een flinterdunne matte finish die ervoor zorgt dat je als speler niet alleen hout hoort, maar ook hout voelt als je speelt. Dat directe, zelfs warme, contact met het hout zorgt voor een unieke speelervaring.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2><iframe src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ZW8TYPCxoHo\" width=\"600\" height=\"336\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/h2>\n<h2>Super duurzaam!<\/h2>\n<p>Omdat Koa alleen op Hawaii groeit, is het een relatief zeldzame houtsoort. Jaren geleden was het ruimschoots beschikbaar, maar dat kwam vooral doordat grote stukken bos werden gekapt voor de landbouw. Toen daar een eind aan kwam, werd het steeds moeilijker om koa te pakken te krijgen. Maar dankzij slimme samenwerking tussen lokale grondbezitters, houthandelaren een veel investeringen in nieuwe beplanting met een hoog rendement voor gitaarbouwers, is koa nu \u00e9\u00e9n van de meest duurzame houtsoorten waarvan we nu al kunnen zeggen dat het de komende 25 jaar nog volop beschikbaar zal zijn op een duurzame, verantwoorde manier. We zijn er trots op dat we voor het vierde achtereenvolgende jaar hun show in Nederland mogen organiseren, mis het niet!","content":"<h2>De NAMM Show<\/h2>\n<p>Jamie Gale, liefhebber van al het goede en gitaar-nerd deluxe, heeft een gave om gitaarbouwers te vinden die buitengewone instrumenten maken. Instrumenten die wij nu als 'boutique' zouden beschouwen.<\/p>\n<p>Op de wereldberoemde NAMM show in Anaheim probeerden deze bouwers de erkenning te krijgen die ze verdienden, alleen werden ze ondergesneeuwd door grote merken met flitsende kraampjes. Meestal eindigden ze weggestopt in een hoekje. Jamie was een van de weinigen (en de enige gestoord genoeg) die de moeite nam om elke vierkante centimeter van de show te bezoeken op zoek naar deze boutique bouwers.\u00a0Uiteindelijk realiseerde de NAMM zich dat ze een plek nodig hadden waar deze instrumenten in de schijnwerpers konden worden gezet. Ze namen contact op met Jamie en voil\u00e0, de Boutique Guitar Showcase was geboren.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong><iframe src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/9MjEyTFypIE\" width=\"560\" height=\"314\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>ENTOUR 2022<\/h2>\n<p>Om te voldoen aan de vraag van winkeleigenaars die zo'n ervaring voor hun eigen klanten willen, reizen Jamie en zijn familie elk jaar de wereld rond met een camper gevuld met gitaarkoffers en lokale cuisine die ze onderweg oppikken. De tour van dit jaar bestrijkt meer dan 25 steden en 10 landen en wij zijn er trots om er een van te zijn. Voor slechts \u00e9\u00e9n dag, 22 oktober, zullen deze gitaren als een tijdelijke tentoonstelling in een museum door onze winkel slingeren. De meeste van deze gitaarbouwers hebben lange wachtlijsten en hebben zelden voorraad in de winkels vanwege de grote vraag en het zorgvuldige bouwproces. De Boutique Guitar Showcase biedt een zeldzame kans om deze instrumenten die je online hebt gezien te bespelen en er zelfs een te kopen. En datzelfde geldt natuurlijk ook voor snaren: life is just too short\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Maar hoe weet je wat goede snaren zijn? Dat verschilt sterk per persoon \u00e9n per gitaar. Wat bij de ene gitarist goed in de smaak valt, vindt de ander niks en wat een perfecte match is met het ene instrument kan weer tegenvallen op een ander. Virtuoos Tommy Emmanuel heeft zijn eigen snaren van Martin en zelfs die wisselt hij af en toe met een setje D\u2019addario. Waarom? Omdat hij \u2019t idee heeft dat een instrument een beetje in slaap gesust wordt door steeds dezelfde snaren. Even van merk switchen is dan gewoon een fijne opfrisser.<\/p>\n<h2>Het begint met snaren<\/h2>\n<p>Of je nou akoestisch speelt of elektrisch: het begint met de snaren. Daarom hebben we bij de Fellowship altijd <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tfoa.eu\/nl\/accessoires\/snaren\/\"><strong>goede snaren van de bekende merken<\/strong><\/a> op voorraad en we zijn supertrots dat we de heerlijke snaren van Stringjoy aan ons assortiment hebben toegevoegd. Deze nieuwe snarendraaiers uit Nashville timmeren sinds 2014 flink aan de weg, met maar \u00e9\u00e9n doel: de beste snaren ter wereld maken.<\/p>\n<p><iframe src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/4gtmUuYCarc\" width=\"600\" height=\"336\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Oprichter Scott werkt al jaren in de muziek en wist dus dat professionele gitaristen vaak met \u2018custom\u2019 snaren werken. Dus geen standaardpakje, maar een setje snaren op maat voor extra speelplezier en de ultieme sound. Best logisch, want een metal-gitarist wil gewoon iets anders dan een country-boy, maar hoe maak je voor al die verschillende spelers de beste snaren? Scott deed dat door eindeloos te priegelen \u00e9n verschillende sets met duidelijke kenmerken te ontwikkelen. Voor de elektrische gitaar is er een z\u00e9\u00e9r uitgebreide lijn met \u2018signatures\u2019 die uiteenlopen van <em>light<\/em> tot <em>drop tune extra heavy<\/em> en zo\u2019n beetje alles wat je daartussen kunt verzinnen. Was je al lang op zoek naar die \u00e9chte vintage sound? De pure nickel snaren bieden dat geluid van toen, met meer gemak van nu. Heel bijzonder!<\/p>\n<p>Voor akoestische gitaristen zijn er sinds kort Foxwoods: de eerste gecoate snaren van Stringjoy en Guitarhunter Jeremy is daar laaiend enthousiast over.<\/p>\n<p><iframe src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/wBrfEXLSAUo\" width=\"600\" height=\"336\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Als je ze ook een keer wil proberen: wij verwachten ze zeer binnenkort. En natuurlijk zijn er ook de \u2018normale\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tfoa.eu\/nl\/#sqr:(q[stringjoy%20natural])\"><strong>phosphor-brons (natural<\/strong><\/a>) snaren van StringJoy en de <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tfoa.eu\/nl\/#sqr:(q[stringjoy%20natural])\"><strong>80\/20 (bright<\/strong><\/a>) variant, in verschillende diktes \u00e9n een set die speciaal gemaakt is voor Nashville tuning. En er zijn natuurlijk ook <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tfoa.eu\/nl\/#sqr:(q[stringjoy%20bass])\"><strong>Stringjoy bas-snaren<\/strong><\/a> in zo\u2019n beetje iedere variant die je kunt verzinnen.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2>Snaren die langer meegaan<\/h2>\n<p>Stringjoy pakt de snaren vanaf het begin goed in en dat betekent dat ze de spoelen met daarop het staaldraad al vacu\u00fcm verpakken en zo voorkomt Stringjoy een deel van het vroege verval van het metaal. Daardoor gaan deze snaren langer mee als ze op je gitaar zitten. En: ze zijn \u00e9cht handgemaakt, want sommige snaren krijgen tot soms meer dan 7.000 wikkelingen onder het toeziend oog van een Stringjoy-operator. Soms doen ze dat met machines die nog dateren uit de jaren \u201970, maar als dat beter werkt ook met hypermoderne apparatuur en sensors. Alles mag bij Stringjoy, als het maar leidt tot de beste snaar in de wereld.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Ze kiezen bovendien voor net iets andere legeringen in de snaren, waardoor we het iedereen aanraden om eens een lichter setje te proberen, want die klinken vaak net zo vol, maar spelen iets lichter. Want dit door en door Amerikaanse merk weet als geen ander de suggestie van een fraaie vuurbal op een gitaar weer te geven.<\/p>\n<p><img src=\"https:\/\/cdn.webshopapp.com\/shops\/179375\/files\/409187429\/sunburst-gibson-lg2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"375\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Geschiedenis van de sunburst<\/h2>\n<p>De sunburst begon eeuwen geleden als een \u2018German Burst\u2019 bij meubel- en vioolbouwers in Duitsland die het hout soms een wat donkerder randje gaven. Waarom? Gewoon, omdat ze het mooi vonden en dat trucje werd later overgenomen door gitaar en mandoline bouwers. Zo\u2019n instrument met een helder, licht midden en een steeds donkerder wordende kleur naar de randen leek een beetje op een ondergaande of opkomende zon, vandaar de naam: sunburst. Later gebruikte Gibson het soms als een handig trucje om iets minder fraai hout toch te kunnen verwerken in een instrument. Daarom was een <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tfoa.eu\/nl\/blogs\/blog\/the-j45-vs-the-d18\/\"><strong>J45<\/strong> <\/a>m\u00e9t sunburst ooit 5 dollar goedkoper dan de J50 met een natural bovenblad. Nu is dat andersom: een sunburst kost meer tijd en is daardoor vaak wat duurder.<\/p>\n<p><img src=\"https:\/\/cdn.webshopapp.com\/shops\/179375\/files\/409187490\/gibson-j50-na-13.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"686\" \/><img src=\"https:\/\/cdn.webshopapp.com\/shops\/179375\/files\/409187480\/gibson-j45-sunburst-1955-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"686\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Dat maakt de sunburst voor gitaren een beetje wat orgaanvlees is voor de Franse Keuken. Je kunt iets zien als afval en het weggooien \u00f3f je doet er iets slims mee, waardoor het t\u00f3ch in de smaak valt. Inmiddels is de sunburst een klassieker waar heel veel gitaarbouwers een geheel eigen draai aan hebben gegeven.<\/p>\n<p><iframe src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/VJNnAw-rXng\" width=\"600\" height=\"336\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Daarom, speciaal voor de lange, zonnige, zomerdagen een kleine greep uit de fraaiste sunbursts die we in ooit in onze winkel hadden \u00e9n heel vaak nog steeds hebben.<\/p>\n<h2>Tobacco of dark burst<\/h2>\n<p>De \u2018klassieke\u2019 sunburst met en mooie, heldere bal in het midden van de klankkast die doorloopt naar donkere, bijna pikzwarte randen. Bekend van verschillende iconische Gibson gitaren zoals een Junior en een L00, maar wij tippen graag aan paar moderne bouwers zoals Atkin en\u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tfoa.eu\/nl\/eastman-e20om-sunburst.html?sqr=east\"><strong>Eastman<\/strong><\/a>. Daarom mag deze Chocolate Burst van eigen bodem niet ontbreken in dit lijstje. Vanuit zijn atelier in Alphen aan den Rijn maakt <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tfoa.eu\/nl\/#sqr:(q[kauffmann])\"><strong>Kauffmann<\/strong><\/a> al jaren heerlijk bespeelbare en betaalbare gitaren. Onlangs voegde hij een offset model aan zijn collectie toe: de Cozy. Vederlicht, met fijne contouren en om het af te maken ging deze tussen de softijsjes door even in de warme choco-dip bij de lokale snackbar.<\/p>\n<p><img src=\"https:\/\/cdn.webshopapp.com\/shops\/179375\/files\/409187426\/kauffmann-cozy-tm-double-bound-chocolate-burst-12.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"375\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Buttered Toast Burst<\/h2>\n<p>Om je vingers bij af te likken, zo fraai is de <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tfoa.eu\/nl\/santa-cruz-om-indian-rosewood-adirondack-buttered.html?sqr=buttered\"><strong>Buttered Toast Burst<\/strong><\/a> van Santa Cruz. Deze boutique builder maakt altijd bijzondere en exclusieve instrumenten en daarbij hoort natuurlijk een eigen burst die precies doet waar Santa Cruz goed in is. Het is subtiel, maar toch direct in het oog springend en de kwaliteit druipt ervan af.<\/p>\n<p><img src=\"https:\/\/cdn.webshopapp.com\/shops\/179375\/files\/409187414\/buttered-burst.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Iced Tea Burst<\/h2>\n<p>Bij Toast hoort Tea en wat te denken van deze uber-coole <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tfoa.eu\/nl\/gibson-les-paul-tribute-satin-iced-tea-119261027.html?sqr=iced%20tea\">Iced Tea Les Paul.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img src=\"https:\/\/cdn.webshopapp.com\/shops\/179375\/files\/409187412\/iced-tea-burst.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"1371\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Black Gold Burst<\/h2>\n<p>Misschien is Paul Reed Smith wel de Koning van de Sunbursts, want deze Amerikaanse gitaarpioneer kiest niet alleen voor subtiele varianten die een tintje lichter of donkerder zijn. Mister Smith voegt graag wat \u00e9chte Amerikaanse flying colors toe en maakt zo bursts met namen als <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tfoa.eu\/nl\/prs-s2-mccarty-594-thinline-mccarty-fire-red-burst.html?sqr=firy\">Fire Red<\/a><\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tfoa.eu\/nl\/prs-s2-mccarty-594-faded-blue-smokeburst.html?sqr=faded\">Faded Blue Smoke<\/a><\/strong>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tfoa.eu\/nl\/prs-pauls-guitar-charcoal-cherry-burst.html?sqr=charcoal\"><strong>Charcoal Cherry<\/strong><\/a> en nog veel meer. Welke burst het ook is, bij PRS is het \u00e1tijd gedurfd bedacht \u00e9n subliem uitgevoerd. Voelen we daar een koel briesje? Maar soms zijn we even stout, zoals bij deze waanzinnige <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tfoa.eu\/en\/prs-custom-22-trampas-green.html\">PRS in Tampas Green<\/a><\/strong>, voor een prijs die we hier niet noemen, omdat we nu al weten dat Paul Reed Smith er niet blij van gaat worden. George Harrison zei niet voor niets: everybody should have a ukelele!<\/p>\n<p><img src=\"https:\/\/cdn.webshopapp.com\/shops\/179375\/files\/406981309\/harrisonukenote.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"805\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Eddie Vedder van Pearl Jam speelde ook een heel album vol met ukeleles, er zijn foto\u2019s van Dave Grohl met een flying V ukelele en zelfs Elvis had er eentje. Dus als je nog geen ukelele hebt, waar wacht je nog op? Als je al een beetje gitaar kunt spelen kan je op een ukelele zonder problemen uit de voeten.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Welke ukelele moet ik kopen?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Er zijn heel veel ukeleles en de prijs varieert van een paar tientjes tot heel serieuze instrumenten van duizenden euro\u2019s. Hoe kies je er dan eentje die bij je past? Ons motto is niet voor niets: Life is too short to play a shitty ukelele, dus daar kunnen wij je bij helpen! Alle ukeleles die wij verkopen zijn goede, mooi gemaakte instrumenten. Ze doen wat ze moeten doen: blijven goed gestemd, rammelen niet, en ze verlaten onze winkel pas na een goede, gratis, afstelbeurt voor dat ultieme speelgevoel en j\u00e1ren speelplezier. Zo\u2019n afstelbeurt is \u00e9cht belangrijk, want daarbij kunnen we rekening houden met persoonlijke voorkeuren.<\/p>\n<p>De vraag is dus vooral welke ukelele het beste bij je past en ons advies daarbij is: begin met je ogen, volg je handen en kies uiteindelijk met je oren. Dus vindt je een ukelele niet mooi? Dan is de kans groot dat je er ook minder op gaat spelen. Spreken de looks je wel aan, dan pak je er ook sneller naar. Daarna volgen je handen en je oren. Wat voor jou lekker voelt en goed klinkt is natuurlijk heel persoonlijk, maar het kan helpen als je de standaard types kent. Omdat we hier heel veel gitaristen helpen bij het vinden van hun droom ukelele, beginnen we niet met de kleinste, maar juist met de grotere modellen, want die voelen sneller vertrouwd. \u00a0<\/p>\n<h2>Baritone Ukelele<\/h2>\n<p>De Baritone Ukelele het grootste formaat, waarvan de snaren gestemd staan als D-G-B-E. Klinkt dat bekend? Dan weet je vast al de weg op de zes snaren van een gitaar, want dit is precies dezelfde stemming als de hoogste vier snaren van een gitaar. Dat maakt de overgang naar een ukelele supermakkelijk, want je pakt zo een D-akkoord en je herkent razendsnel de ukelele akkoord-varianten. Daar komt nog eens een mooi vol laag geluid bij door de wat grotere klankkast en de iets langere scale length (mensuur) van meestal zo\u2019n 19 inch\/48 centimeter.<\/p>\n<h2>Tenor Ukelele<\/h2>\n<p>Een slag \u00a0kleiner is de Tenor Ukelele. Die biedt ook een rijk geluid, maar staat gestemd in de standaard Ukelele stemming: GCEA. Da\u2019s even wennen, maar met wat tutorials van Youtube of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tfoa.eu\/nl\/get-uked-super-starter-pack-nederlands.html?sqr=uked\">een goed boek<\/a><\/strong>, speel je in no time een liedje. Wij vinden de Tenor Ukelele een hele mooie, volwassen variant op de standaard Concert, want ze zijn n\u00e9t ietsje groter en nog steeds zeer compact.<\/p>\n<p><iframe src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Ddip7RnuNTg\" width=\"600\" height=\"336\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h2>Concert Ukelele<\/h2>\n<p>Zoek je een nieuwe of tweedehands ukelele? Begin dan altijd met het Concert formaat, want dat is de gouden standaard. Gestemd in GCEA en dat is een handige basis. Klein, met een fijn, helder uit duizenden herkenbaar ukelele geluid dat overal zo lekker doorheen prikt.<\/p>\n<h2>Soprano Ukelele<\/h2>\n<p>Het allerkleinste formaatje ukelele oogt misschien wat kinderachtig, maar vergis je niet: ze klinken als een klok! Zoals en parlor gitaar meer projectie geeft dan een groter gitaarmodel, zo heeft de soprano een heel eigen geluid. Esdoorn rijpt als goede wijn, dus de vintage gitaren uit die tijd klinken nu nog beter.<\/p>\n<p><iframe src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/jLj9Hf33EZc\" width=\"600\" height=\"336\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h2>Veel hoog?<\/h2>\n<p>In akoestische gitaren klinkt esdoorn super transparant en biedt in vergelijking met ander klankhout meer hoog. Juist daarom zie je esdoorn vaker terug in de wat grotere modellen, want die constructies voegen meer laag toe en zo komt het geluid perfect in balans. Speel je graag akkoorden en zoek je een mooie volle sound voor een stevige strumpartij? Dan is zo\u2019n jumbo model met esdoorn zeker het proberen waard.<\/p>\n<p>Gelukkig is esdoorn veel meer dan een one trick pony, dus zien we dit klankhout de laatste tijd steeds vaker terug in kleinere akoestische modellen van de beste gitaarbouwers van de wereld met verbluffend resultaat. Esdoorn wordt niet voor niets in veel mandolines gebruikt voor wat extra volume en helderheid en vioolbouwers grijpen al eeuwen naar esdoorn, dus dit klankhout kan prima zonder een grote body. Daarnaast biedt esdoorn een mooie mix van harmonische overtonen de je misschien kent van palissander en koppelt dat aan de solide, wat meer \u2018woody\u2019 basistonen die je misschien kent van mahonie. Wat klank betreft is esdoorn dus een mooie gulden middenweg die gitaristen daarnaast een unieke, directe speelervaring geeft, want het hout is zeer reflectief en supergevoelig. Speel je hard, dan klinkt de gitaar hard, speel je zacht dan kleurt esdoorn mooi met je mee. Door die directheid in het speelgevoel en het heldere, bijna luchtige geluid kan een gitaar van esdoorn echt voelen als een verlengstuk van je lichaam.<\/p>\n<p>Wil je esdoorn eens proberen? Op het bovenblad zie je een sterrenhemel van 436 diamanten die verwijzen naar de dag waarop C.F. Een prachtig klankhout dat veel deelt met mahonie maar dan met een beetje extra sparkle. Tijdens de NAMM 2022 presenteerden ze de Klontar, een unieke blend van een gitaar \u00e9n het legendarische pedaal. ","content":"<p>As long as guitars have been built, and as long as guitars are being built; the discussion on tonewoods will continue. We can't blame them, different kinds of wood\u00a0<em>do<\/em> affect your sound in major ways. Especially on acoustic guitars. We'll walk you through the different types of woods and hopefully help you whilst making you decision.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tfoa.eu\/en\/tags\/blogj45\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img src=\"https:\/\/static.webshopapp.com\/shops\/179375\/files\/172548101\/dsc-8048.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"722\" height=\"478\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As you can see in the picture above, these are all <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tfoa.eu\/nl\/brands\/gibson\/\">Gibson<\/a> J-45's. By using different types of wood to construct these fine instruments, they don't only look different, but they also\u00a0<em>sound\u00a0<\/em>very different. Let's start by discussing woods that are used for the tops of guitars, also called the soundboard!<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h3>Top Woods<\/h3>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img class=\"irc_mi\" style=\"margin-top: 26px;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.wood-database.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sitka-spruce.jpg\" alt=\"Afbeeldingsresultaat voor sitka spruce\" width=\"170\" height=\"170\" \/>Arguably the most common tonewood, Sitka Spruce is a well-rounded tonewood, one suited for many styles of playing. It\u2019s known for its tight grain pattern and its high stiffness and relative lightness, translating to a broad dynamic range that stands up well when strummed heartily. At the same time, it\u2019s also quite responsive to fingerpicking, though a light touch may result in a thin sound. Sitka tends to have stronger fundamentals than overtones, and this means that it can sound not quite as robust when played with the lightest touch. \u201cSitka is the most consistently available, good-quality spruce there is, and that\u2019s why we use it as stock on the majority of our guitars,\u201d says Dick Boak, director of the museum and archives at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tfoa.eu\/nl\/brands\/martin\/\">Martin &amp; Co.<\/a> Besides Martins, Sitka Spruce is used on many guitars in the industry. A sitka spruce top can be seen on the J50 for example, second from right on the picture above.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img class=\"irc_mi\" src=\"https:\/\/www.themandolintuner.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/engelmann-spruce-sealed.jpg\" alt=\"Gerelateerde afbeelding\" width=\"170\" height=\"231\" \/>Engelmann spruce, which also grows in western North America, is a common alternative to Sitka. Because it is in lesser supply than Sitka, Engelmann often costs more. It\u2019s a lighter and less stiff variety than Sitka, and it has stronger overtones and weaker fundamentals. An Engelmann top typically has less headroom than one made from Sitka, and its sound can suffer a little when played loudly. \u201cEngelmann is a good choice for players who want a more complex sound when playing softly,\u201d says Dana Bourgeois, adding that European spruce shares characteristics with Engelmann, but has more headroom, making it ideal for players with a stronger attack.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img class=\"irc_mi\" src=\"https:\/\/www.taylorguitars.com\/sites\/default\/files\/styles\/guitar_feature\/public\/top-woods-grain-lutz-spruce-350x350_0.jpg?itok=B8q7fmSm\" alt=\"Afbeeldingsresultaat voor lutz spruce\" width=\"170\" height=\"170\" \/>When <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tfoa.eu\/nl\/brands\/taylor\/\">Taylor Guitar<\/a> redesigned its popular 700 series, the company turned to Lutz spruce, a natural hybrid of Sitka and white spruce that provides a higher volume ceiling. Taylor is no stranger to Lutz; the world\u2019s largest acoustic-guitar manufacturer introduced this tonewood into its lineup with the revoiced 500 series. It grows naturally in a relatively small area in Central British Columbia and the Alaskan panhandle. The supplier hails Lutz spruce for its \u201chybrid vigor.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img class=\"irc_mi\" src=\"http:\/\/goodallguitars.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/adirondackspruce-1.jpg\" alt=\"Afbeeldingsresultaat voor adirondack spruce\" width=\"170\" height=\"170\" \/>Adirondack, or Eastern red spruce, named after its ruddy coloring, grows in the Adirondack Mountains and in the cool forests of the Northeast. It is the king of spruces. Prior to World War II, it was the soundboard tonewood of choice for Martin and other makers. But over-harvesting of this wood led to its being all but phased out for use in guitars in the years after the war. For the most part, Adirondack spruce can be found on select high-end instruments. It\u2019s a relatively heavy and stiff wood, having strong fundamentals, but a greater overtone content than Sitka, and it tends to be the loudest and liveliest of spruces as well.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">Adirondack can be extremely wide-grained\u2014as few as four grains per inch\u2014and not as pretty as other spruces, but it has the uncanny ability to add complexity<br \/>to the tone. Adirondack is used as a top on the \"midde\" guitar, 4th from right, on the picture above! It's a J-45 Vintage 2018 model, rocking a classic Adi top combined with a Mahogany body.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><img class=\"irc_mi\" src=\"http:\/\/goodallguitars.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/europeanspruce-1-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"Afbeeldingsresultaat voor german spruce\" width=\"170\" height=\"170\" \/>German Spruce is a common term for Spruce coming from Europe, but it is not really accurate. Guitar grade Spruce has not come out of Germany for many years now. The best material comes from the former Yugoslavia region. With German Spruce, you can expect the excellent, slightly golden-colored tonewood that, for years now, has been the staple of the bowed instrument world, and a favorite among high-end steel string and classical guitar builders. German Spruce is of exactly the same species as Alpine or Italian Spruce, but is different in sound because of the high regions the Alpine Spruce grows in. Alpine Spruce is just a bit warmer in color and the winter grain, when visible, is a bit pinker. Tonally, it is said be more focused with a slightly stronger fundamental than regular German Spruce. For this reason it has a loyal group of devotees.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><img class=\"irc_mi\" src=\"http:\/\/www.brandveilighout.nl\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/western-red-cedar-2.jpg\" alt=\"Afbeeldingsresultaat voor western red cedar\" width=\"170\" height=\"170\" \/>Though it\u2019s used more commonly for the soundboards of classical guitars, red cedar, growing in western North America, can make a great steel-string soundboard. This wood tends to have a honeyed color and is known for its sonically analogous dark and lush tone, and also for being generally less bass-y and projective than spruce. For these reasons, a cedar-topped guitar is a good choice for a fingerpicker (it\u2019s common on classical nylon-string guitars), but not necessarily a strummer with a heavy attack.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><img class=\"irc_mi\" src=\"http:\/\/mitchellforestproducts.com\/mfpwp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/santos-mahogany-image.jpg\" alt=\"Gerelateerde afbeelding\" width=\"170\" height=\"170\" \/>Not often used for soundboards, Mahogany can be a surprisingly good choice. The combination of a mahogany soundboard with a back and sides of the same woods is midrange-rich and punchy and works especially well for country-blues fingerpicking. The far left J-45 on the picture above is an example of a full Mahogany guitar, a combination that many guitarist swear by, making full Mahogany guitars extremely popular.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><img class=\"irc_mi\" src=\"https:\/\/i.stack.imgur.com\/bYq0R.jpg\" alt=\"Gerelateerde afbeelding\" width=\"170\" height=\"170\" \/>Just like Mahogany, Koa isn't a popular top wood. But in combination with the right woods, this one can work miracles! When paired with a nice body, koa has the crispness and clarity of the finest rosewood, but with all the warmth, thick tone, and airiness that mahogany possesses. Its individual note definition has magnificent separation, with power and projection that is almost self-generating. Adding to this is koa\u2019s ability to be boisterous and brash, or soft and smooth if you so choose. Koa is also one of the few tonewoods that can literally take on a \u201ctwo sided\u201d role; as a back and side wood, and as a soundboard\u2026 making one dazzling piece of an instrument! Plus, Koa will keep warming up the longer you play her.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><img class=\"irc_mi\" src=\"http:\/\/www.labdesignlaminate.com\/assets\/610-hard-rock-maple.jpg\" alt=\"Gerelateerde afbeelding\" width=\"170\" height=\"170\" \/>Maple is occasionally used for soundboards, but more often for backs and sides, due to its flatness of sound and for its relative shortness of decay\u2014an attribute that happens to make the wood more resistant to feedback in amplified situations than rosewood or mahogany. Not all builders find maple to be a suitable top material, though. \u201cI wouldn\u2019t typically recommend maple as soundboard tonewood,\u201d says Andy Powers, Taylor Guitars\u2019 master luthier. \u201cOne of its singular characteristics is that it\u2019s almost perfectly transparent\u2014it doesn\u2019t sound like anything, which isn\u2019t usually how you want a top to respond.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><img class=\"irc_mi\" src=\"https:\/\/images.homedepot-static.com\/productImages\/07cf1ecd-876d-453f-90d8-9d2b78001915\/svn\/clopay-garage-color-samples-redwood-in-natural-078-64_1000.jpg\" alt=\"Afbeeldingsresultaat voor redwood wood\" width=\"170\" height=\"170\" \/>Last but not least, a fan-favourite top; Redwood! The tops typically display a rich spectrum of variegation, the result of colors uniquely imparted from silt and the mineral-rich water. The age and size (these trees can easily become up to 80m and become thousands of year old) of these trees translates into a tight grain with nice cross-grain stiffness, so it will tend to have a fairly bold response, with a brilliance complemented by warm overtones similar to cedar. In fact, it\u2019s often characterized around the Taylor complex as \"cedar on steroids.\"<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p2\">Back &amp; Sides<\/h3>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Now let's talk back &amp; sides, probably the second most important feature regarding the wood choice and sound of a guitar!\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img src=\"http:\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0883\/0018\/products\/Mahogany_grande.jpg?v=1502129962\" alt=\"Afbeeldingsresultaat voor mahogany\" width=\"170\" \/>Mahogany, stilll mainly used for back and sides. It is the most commonly used hardwood because it's relatively economical, durable, attractive, easy to work with and resonant. Mahogany became popular in guitars because it is attractive and cheaper to get than rosewood. Whereas the high-end Martin D-28 would have rosewood back and sides, the lower-end D-18 used mahogany. Mahogany lends more of a parlor kind of tone to the guitar. i.e. it's twangier but not as brilliant. It's not as big sounding either, but contains a distinct character. This character was present on most of the acoustic guitar sounds on early Beatles recordings since they used Gibsons of mahogany construction. The farthest left guitar on the picture above is a full Mahogany guitar; An extremely sought after model! Also the \"middle\" guitar, the Gibson J-45 Vintage, also rocks a Mahogany body.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img src=\"https:\/\/woodcraft-production-weblinc.netdna-ssl.com\/product_images\/rosewood-bolivian-3-4-x-3-x-24\/5843c00e69702d02530001aa\/zoom.jpg?c=1482217235\" alt=\"Afbeeldingsresultaat voor rosewood\" width=\"170\" \/>Rosewood has a beautiful rich variety of brown and purple colours. It makes a warm rich sounding guitar with great resonance and volume. However, Brazilian rosewood is no longer available in commercial quality or quantity. As a result it now sells for sizeable prices. To most, Brazilian has better clarity in the bottom and a almost bell like tone in the trebles. Indian rosewood has become the general substitute for Brazilian rosewood. Generally speaking, this wood is not as attractive as Brazilian and It has a noticeably purple color and the grain markings are coarser. Making a solid guitar out of Rosewood would be too heavy and\/or cost prohibitive in most cases. This is because the wood is rare and expensive. Plus its porous nature requires a good deal of \"pore fill\" (and subsequent labour) before lacquer can be applied. Although, Rosewood is a very hard wood (harder than Maple) it's porous and \"greasy\" nature gives it a warmer tone in general.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img src=\"https:\/\/i.stack.imgur.com\/bYq0R.jpg\" alt=\"Gerelateerde afbeelding\" width=\"170\" \/>In conjuction with being a top wood, Koa is also popular as back &amp; sides.\u00a0Bass response is slightly less than East Indian Rosewood and treble response a bit less than genuine mahogany. Her balanced, clear tone is only outshone by the beauty of her honey-rippled grain. Just like the top wood, Koa will only warm up the longer you play and own her.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img src=\"https:\/\/images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com\/images\/I\/91egrVC5oPL._SY355_.jpg\" alt=\"Gerelateerde afbeelding\" width=\"170\" \/>Sapele is also known as African-Mahogany, being slightly cheaper than real Mahogany.\u00a0Sapele is a highly sustainable, relatively fast-growing wood. Tonally, it does everything that mahogany does, with a little extra treble zing. This body wood goes well with almost everything and can be seen on many budget Martins and Taylors.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img src=\"https:\/\/d2jd5cd93sjelr.cloudfront.net\/spree\/images\/34237\/large\/f2005200-1_5.jpg\" alt=\"Afbeeldingsresultaat voor walnut wood\" width=\"170\" \/>Walnut is similar to Koa when it comes to sound. This is because it is similar in density and grain structure. Walnut yields excellent balance and comes with tonal characteristics that fall between rosewood and mahogany. Walnut can be seen on plenty of European guitars, and especially the combination Walnut and Cedar, that can be seen on many Lowdens, sounds amazing. Walnut is also used on the back&amp;sides of the second from left J-45 on the picture above! In combination with a Sitka top, she sounds amazing! As does the J15 to the right, rocking the same combination.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img src=\"https:\/\/www.nwfiguredwoods.com\/images\/samples\/curly-maple.jpg\" alt=\"Afbeeldingsresultaat voor maple wood\" width=\"170\" \/>Maple is one of the most acoustically transparent tonewoods, due to a low velocity of sound and a high degree of internal damping. Often described as having a \u201cbright\u201d sound, Maple has fewer overtones than other medium-density woods, resulting in strong fundamentals, and rapid note decay. This makes it a preferred wood for larger guitars, because it helps reduce dominating overtones in the lower frequencies. Maple can be found in many variaties, bigleaf, quilted, birdseye and flamed.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img src=\"http:\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0883\/0018\/products\/cherry_bf3c31e0-057b-4209-8bd9-7a6c5e04a501_grande.jpg?v=1502132983\" alt=\"Afbeeldingsresultaat voor cherry wood\" width=\"170\" \/>Cherry has a density and reflectivity approaching that of Maple. It\u2019s low velocity of sound produces a rich, balanced mid-range, without favoring the bass or treble frequencies. It\u2019s tone is similar to maple but less dry sounding, with more sustain and clarity in the bass and mid-range frequencies. Some describe the sound as being \u201cbuttery\u201d. Cherry has no pores, so it finishes beautifully and develops a lovely dark, redish hue over time.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img src=\"http:\/\/www.myrtlewoodgallery.com\/media\/pages\/wood\/wood_myrtle\/myrtlesample12.jpg\" alt=\"Afbeeldingsresultaat voor myrtle wood\" width=\"170\" \/>Myrtle wood is not very common on guitars, we have a few in stock ourselves though. It is comparable to Maple, but way more complex. Sort of a Maple\/Rosewood combination. Some people have also compared it to being like Walnut, it's dense but very well balanced. It's great for OM's and fingerstyle players.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img src=\"http:\/\/www.exotichardwoodsukltd.com\/Wood-Reference\/Cocobolo-Ref\/files\/cocobolo.png\" alt=\"Afbeeldingsresultaat voor cocobolo\" width=\"170\" \/>Cocobolo is a dense, stiff tropical hardwood with a fairly bright tone. Sonically, it's similar to koa, but resonates a little deeper on the low end, although it doesn't have quite the full low end of rosewood or ovangkol. Fast and responsive, with moderate note decay, it's articulate with lots of note distinction. It seems like an extremely exotic tonewood, but is used way more often than you would think! We have about 20 guitars ourselves that use cocobolo in some shape or form.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img src=\"http:\/\/www.botanictimber.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/blackwood-600x600.jpg\" alt=\"Afbeeldingsresultaat voor blackwood\" width=\"170\" \/>Last but not least; Blackwood! Blackwood is an acacia wood species that is sometimes compared to Hawaiian koa, another acacia species. Its tonal range is similar to both koa and mahogany, featuring a strong midrange focus that is dry, clear and warm, with a splash of top-end shimmer and richness comparable to Indian rosewood. The overall volume and projection are strong. Blackwood also is sourced from forests that are responsibly managed, making it a sustainable wood for guitar making.<\/p>\n<p>Goes Well With: Different playing styles, depending on the body style and top pairing. A cedar top will help bring out a springy, woody, warm low end with a rich overtone complement that fingerstylists may really enjoy. Stronger strummers and flatpickers will match up well with a bigger body and might be better suited with a spruce top.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h3>Fretboard Woods<\/h3>\n<p class=\"p2\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">Lastly, it's time to discuss the fretboard woods. The choice of wood on the fretboard can be of great impact to the sound of a guitar, let's find out which choices you have!\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">When choosing a fretboard-material, the three most common choices are Maple, Ebony and Rosewood. Let's start with Maple, as seen in the picture!<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><img src=\"http:\/\/leftyfretz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/ebony-maple-rosewood-fingerboard.jpg\" alt=\"Afbeeldingsresultaat voor ebony fretboard\" width=\"452\" height=\"135\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">Maple\u00a0has been used in instrument making for years where it has traditionally been the wood of choice for the backs, sides, and necks of violins, violas, cellos and double basses.\u00a0Maple\u00a0can be a stunning wood to look at, particularly when it comes in its \u2018flamed\u2019 or \u2018birdseye\u2019 presentation. It is a very light coloured wood (often appearing almost white) with tight pores and thin grain lines, and this can give\u00a0Maple\u00a0fretboards a striking appearance set against a darker coloured body.\u00a0Overall,\u00a0Maple\u00a0is appropriate where you want to give a naturally warm sounding guitar a brighter, tighter tone, and\/or where the light colour neck is visually appealing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Common on electric, bass, and acoustic guitars,\u00a0Rosewood\u00a0is by far the most widespread fretboard tone wood in circulation, and is the preferred option for the majority of players. There are two kinds of Rosewood available; the relatively common and therefore inexpensive Indian\u00a0Rosewood, and the more costly and rare variety,\u00a0Brazilian Rosewood. The Indian variety features an even grain and is a rich dark brown colour which provides a bold contrast to the lighter colours that are often found on the body of the guitars they complement. \u2018Brazilian\u2019 is rarely found on fretboards owing to its rarity and exorbitant cost, but it can vary from light to very dark brown featuring some shades of orange. The combination of availability, cost, tonal properties, and uniform dark colour makes \u2018Indian\u2019 by far the most popular choice of the two.<\/p>\n<p>Rosewood\u00a0is a medium density wood, and is naturally oily. Many players prefer this natural feel of the wood, particularly compared to the feel of woods that require a finish of some kind like\u00a0Maple\u00a0does. Taylor, for example, uses a lot of Smokey Ebony. They do this because this is better for the environment, most guitar companies want the blackest of Ebonys, making them throw away the perfectly good Smokey Ebony. It differs to\u00a0Maple\u00a0in that is has a higher natural oil content, and this means that it can be left unfinished. It also wears very well and will hold up to years of playing, more so than some of the less dense options available like\u00a0Rosewood.<\/p>\n<p>In many respects,\u00a0Ebony\u00a0offers a blend of the qualities of\u00a0Rosewood\u00a0and\u00a0Maple. It is dark in appearance with natural oils like\u00a0Rosewood\u00a0so it doesn\u2019t need finishing and its porosity means that it favours the fundamental tone.
