Collings D1A Traditional Custom 2021

A Collings Traditional is built to let you hear and feel the most beloved characteristics of sought-after pre-war guitars, with a slightly looser, more broken-in response and tone. This D1A T is certainly well broken in, and also features a number of very interesting Custom options that make it unique!

For instance, the exceptionally fine-grained Adirondack spruce top was specially selected by Bruce VanWart, the first employee hired by Bill Collings in 1989. Also noteworthy is the beautiful ebony headstock overlay with a gold-colored Collings logo that adorns the headstock along with the Aged Waverly tuning machines.

Another striking detail is the absence of the tongue brace; this was also missing from pre-war guitars, allowing the top to move more freely, resulting in an open sound. Collings currently applies this detail to the Hill Country series as well.

Additionally, this D1A T features a slimmer neck that was normally supplied on the Traditional models; With a nut width of 43.2 mm or 1 1/16 inches and a V-shaped neck profile, playing comfort is top-notch!

The combination of mahogany back and sides with an Adirondack spruce top and the techniques of Collings's Traditional series ensures that this Collings has the loud and clear sound a dreadnought should have; this is a true bluegrass machine!

The guitar is from 2021 and has been played well over the years, but also exceptionally well maintained. The finish shines beautifully, but there are a few superficial dings to be found on the top and sides. There is superficial buckle wear on the back of the body, and some dings on the back of the headstock. This is simply one of the best guitars in our shop; what a fantastic dreadnought!

This instrument has been carefully inspected for originality, condition and playability, then set up to our Gold Standard by a luthier. We make sure it arrives in your hands exactly as it should: sounding its best, playing effortlessly and ready to be enjoyed from the very first note.
