Collings OM2 MRG Madagascar Rosewood German Spruc 2015 #24933

Collings has long been regarded as one of the finest acoustic guitar builders in the world, and this OM2 MRG is a beautiful example of why. Built in Austin, Texas in 2015, it pairs two of the most prized tonewoods available with the flawless craftsmanship that has made the Collings name legendary.

At its heart is a top of solid German spruce over solid Madagascar rosewood back and sides, a pairing that offers much of the richness and complexity of the finest Brazilian rosewood guitars with a clarity and precision all its own. Braced with pre-war scalloped X-bracing, it is voiced for power, balance and note separation. The appointments are exquisite: ivoroid binding, multi-line purfling and an abalone rosette, an ebony fingerboard with abalone diamond and square inlays, a Madagascar rosewood headstock overlay with a flourish inlay, and open-gear Waverly nickel tuners. The mahogany neck is carved to a comfortable Modified V profile.

Tonally, this OM2 is everything you would hope for from a high-end Collings. The German spruce and Madagascar rosewood combine for a voice that is powerful yet refined, with deep, articulate lows, a clear and vocal midrange and shimmering, complex highs. The OM body and long scale give it superb balance and headroom, making it equally at home for intricate fingerstyle and confident flatpicking.

This 2015 Collings is in excellent condition and still looks clean. It has picked up some honest playwear over the years in the form of scratches and a few small dings, most notably on the top, where there are also some pick scratches on the bass side along with a few dings. It comes supplied in its hardshell case with a spec sheet and a TFOA Passport.
