Collings SoCo Deluxe Doghair 2017

This Collings SoCo Deluxe pairs a Honduran mahogany body with a premium flamed maple top, finished in a striking Dog Hair finish that gives it a mottled black-and-grey look that's genuinely one of a kind — no two examples of this finish ever turn out quite the same.

The SoCo takes its name from South Congress, the eclectic Austin, Texas neighbourhood not far from Collings' own workshop, and channels the spirit of the classic 1950s semi-hollow archtop into a guitar built to Bill Collings' own standard of fit and finish. The Dog Hair finish itself is a Collings signature: a dark lacquer base hand-finished with a lighter grain filler, applied and timed by hand so the texture varies from guitar to guitar.

This one pairs a set of Lollar Low Wind humbuckers with a simple volume, tone and 3-way switch layout, a Tune-o-Matic bridge and Stop Bar tailpiece, and a Honduran mahogany neck with a C profile, rosewood fingerboard, 632mm scale and 43.2mm nut width. It's in excellent condition overall, with a small chip on the top just to the right of the neck humbucker and a few light scratches where a pickguard would normally sit — nothing beyond that. Comes in a hardshell case with TFOA Passport and certificate.
