gibson-citation-natural-1995-1995003
Gibson Citation Natural 1995 #1995003

Years of dedication, experience and craftsmanship have made the Citation the finest instrument of its kind in the world. [...] This instrument is truly "The Gibson" guitar.

That's how the Citation was described in Gibson's 1970 catalogue. This 1995 example in natural finish is a genuine rarity: preserved in excellent, all-original condition, it is a true collector's piece that has lost none of its voice.

Designed by Gibson president Stanley Rendell and introduced in 1969, the Citation sat at the very top of Gibson's line. Priced at $2500 it almost doubled the price of the next most expensive instrument, the Super 400CESN. Between 1969 and 1971, only 8 guitars have been made. Between 1979 and 1983, a reissue resulted in approximately a dozen more. And when the model was revived again in 1993, production remained in very limited numbers. The serial number '1995003' suggests that this example from 1995 was only the third Citation of that year. That exclusivity is exactly why existing examples so rarely come up for sale, and why the ones that do are cherished by collectors around the world.

What makes this particular guitar so special is how untouched it is. The solid flamed maple body and carved solid spruce top wear their natural finish beautifully, with only some weatherchecking betraying its age. The ebony fingerboard carries the model's signature abalone cloud inlays, with a fleur-de-lis at the headstock, while the original Kluson Sealfast tuners, adjustable ebony bridge and Citation trapeze tailpiece are all present and correct. For a collector, it is about as complete and honest as these instruments come.

The floating Gibson BJB humbucker leaves the carved top free to resonate, so the guitar keeps its warm, woody acoustic archtop character while the pickup delivers the smooth, mellow jazz tone. The maple neck with its slim D profile, 12" fingerboard radius and 25.4" scale length offers a smooth and comfortable feel.

This instrument has been carefully inspected for originality, condition and playability, then set up to our Gold Standard by a luthier. We make sure it arrives in your hands exactly as it should: sounding its best, playing effortlessly and ready to be enjoyed from the very first note.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0960/6607/7019/files/GibsonCitationNatural1995_1995003-2.jpg?v=1788506020
