In 2016 the Gibson Memphis shop built a limited run of 200 guitars based on Texas Blues Icon Freddie Kings' weapon of choice: A sixties Cherry Red ES345. This is number 056.The ES345 was introduced in 1959 in response to the need to upgrade the revolutionary new semi-hollowbody design of the ES335. Gibson equipped the ES345 with distinctive details such as multi-ply binding, gold-colored hardware and split parallelogram inlays on the fingerboard. The model also featured a Vari-Tone switch that added six additional options to the tonal arsenal, all with a stereo output. The Varitone system gives players access to a broader palette of tones. This Limited edition Freddie King model is built to period standards: hot hide glue neck joint and bracing, quartersawn Adirondack spruce braces, historically correct fret wire, matched 550k pots with Black Beauty capacitors, and a pair of MHS humbuckers, voiced to replicate the PAF character of the original late-'50s ES-345. The VOS gold hardware, creme binding, parallelogram inlays, and Sixties Cherry nitrocellulose finish complete the picture. The guitar is in great condition. Naturally it has some minor playwear but overall it looks very crisp.Comes in a Hardshell Case with a Certificate of Authenticity and a TFOA Passport.
