Gibson J185 Original Sunburst 2024

This Gibson J-185 Original in Sunburst from 2024 is a maple jumbo that revives the refined, balanced voice of Gibson's classic mid-size jumbo. Smaller and more focused than the celebrated SJ-200, it pairs a solid Sitka spruce top with solid maple back and sides for a clear, articulate tone, and an onboard LR Baggs pickup makes it stage-ready.

Gibson introduced the J-185 in 1951 as a more compact, elegant counterpart to the mighty SJ-200. At 16 inches across it kept the jumbo's looks and projection, but in a body that sat closer and felt more manageable, quickly earning a following among players who wanted power without the full width of its bigger brother. The Original Collection recreates that vintage recipe faithfully: period-correct appointments, a rounded body and the maple-and-spruce combination that gave the J-185 its lively, well-defined character from the very start.

In excellent condition, this J-185 shows the tasteful details the model is known for: cream binding, mother-of-pearl parallelogram inlays and a tortoise pickguard. The solid maple body lends the tone clarity and a quick response, with a focused midrange and crisp top end that keeps every note distinct. The slim taper mahogany neck and 24.75" scale make for a comfortable, easy playing feel, while the LR Baggs VTC pickup translates that voice cleanly when you plug in.

It looks really clean and only has some light traces of use like three small lacquer chips on the headstock, a couple of tiny dings on the body and the usual playwear. It travels in its hardshell case and includes a TFOA Passport.
