And it hardly seems to matter how much such a guitar has been through; especially when they are 'vintage,' they possess a certain magic that cannot be artificially surpassed.

A vintage Gibson always causes quite a stir at The Fellowship of Acoustics, because the Slope Shoulder models bring out the inner singer-songwriter in everyone. The Southern Jumbo was introduced in 1942 as a more luxurious version of the popular but simply designed J45. The model found its place alongside the J45 and J50 in Gibson's lineup and garnered its fame in the guitar world primarily thanks to Hank Williams Sr. The year 1946 was the first in which the famous Gibson banner was no longer used, so only the gold script logo adorns the headstock of this Southern Jumbo.

The Southern Jumbo featured Gibson's premium woods, a 5-ply binding, and double parallelogram inlays on the bound fingerboard. The typical Gibson dry, woody tone character is naturally unmistakable and can only be found in vintage Gibson guitars. Warm and soft when played lightly, but capable of delivering plenty of punch and projection with a solid strum. Perfect for all types of flatpicking and rhythm guitar playing!

This Southern Jumbo from 1946 is now 80 years old and has built up quite a bit of character over the years. For instance, the oversized pickguard stands out immediately, as does the fact that, in addition to a few lacquer repairs around the soundhole, two pickup holes have been filled in. Furthermore, a crack on the treble side has been repaired, and on the bass side, both bindings have a crack in the waist. A crack in the bridge has also been repaired, and the guitar has had a refret and neck reset at some point. Additionally, several braces have been re-glued, and the guitar otherwise displays the signs of wear and crackle you would expect from an instrument of this age. The original Kluson tuning machines are still fully functional!

A vintage guitar bursting with character that will bring out just that little bit of extra inspiration in every guitarist!
