Ibanez AS200 Sunburst 1985

The Ibanez AS200 is one of the absolute top models in the Artist Series and grew in the 1980s to become one of the most beloved semi-hollow guitars of its time. This 1985 example was built in Japan during Ibanez's golden age and demonstrates why the model has built such an excellent reputation.

With its laminated flamed maple body, mahogany neck, and ebony fingerboard, the AS200 combines the warmth and resonance of a semi-hollow with the stability and feedback resistance that is maintained even at higher volumes. The elegant Antique Violin Sunburst finish, mother-of-pearl and abalone split block inlays, and the deluxe finish underscore the high-quality character of this instrument.

This example is equipped with two Gibson humbuckers that replace the original Super 58 pickups. As a result, the guitar retains its warm, dynamic character, but with a sound that clearly aligns with the classic Gibson voicing. The Tri-Sound switch on the neck pickup has been retained and offers additional tonal possibilities compared to a traditional semi-hollow. The Gibraltar II bridge and Quick Change II tailpiece ensure excellent sustain and accurate intonation, while the comfortable AS neck invites hours of playing enjoyment.

It is no coincidence that the AS200 was played for years by guitarists such as John Scofield, who put the model on the map worldwide. This guitar has been modified in a few respects over the years; in addition to the Gibson humbuckers, the original tortoise pickguard has also been replaced with a black Gibson pickguard. Additionally, the rubber casing of one of the tone knobs is missing.
