Lowden O32 12 String 1994 Ex Gary Moore

Gary Moore and Lowden, besides their Irish roots this wouldn't be a combination you would expect. However, this O32 12 String used to be in the collection of the late, great Gary Moore. This was Lot 139 in The Gary Moore Collection, sold by Bonhams on 28 June 2017. Now in near mint condition, it offers the unmistakable Lowden voice together with provenance that very few 12-strings can match.

Lowden was founded by Irish luthier George Lowden, whose handbuilt guitars have long been prized for their distinctive, three-dimensional sound. The O is Lowden's original jumbo body, and this O32 pairs a solid Sitka spruce top with solid Indian rosewood back and sides. Its signature dolphin bracing lets the top move freely and open up, which is a big part of why these guitars sound so rich and harmonically complex; qualities a 12-string only amplifies. The Sitka spruce and Indian rosewood combination gives this O32 a full, wide voice with deep lows and clear, singing highs, and across twelve strings that translates into a rich, chiming shimmer.

After three decades this Lowden has aged remarkably well. It's extremely clean and, aside from a small ding on the back of the body and some very light play wear on the top, it looks almost new. At some point a piezo pickup was fitted, so it is also ready for the stage or studio. The natural satin finish, maple binding and wooden rosette all show the natural beauty of Lowden guitars.

This beautiful 1994 Lowden comes in a Hiscox case and includes the Bonhams certificate, signed by Gary's guitar tech Graham Lilley, and of course its TFOA passport.
