The Martin 00028EC is the result of a long-standing collaboration between Martin and Eric Clapton, blending vintage specifications with modern playability. This signature model pays tribute to the pre-war Martins that Clapton admires so much, but with contemporary craftsmanship and the perfect setup for fingerstyle players.

Eric Clapton’s love for Martin guitars began when he purchased a 1939 000-42 in the 1990s, a guitar that fundamentally changed his sound. This experience inspired him to develop a signature model with Martin that captures the magic of those pre-war instruments. The 00028EC debuted in 1996 and has been in continuous production ever since, with Martin staying true to Clapton’s vision: a guitar with vintage character, but without the quirks of a truly old instrument.

The 000 model shares the same basic shape as the OM (Orchestra Model), but with a shorter 24.9-inch scale length. The combination of a Sitka spruce top and Indian rosewood back and sides produces a rich, balanced tone with warm lows and clear trebles. The scalloped bracing allows the top to resonate more freely, resulting in greater dynamics and expressiveness for both fingerstyle and light pick playing. 

This 2004 guitar shows a bit of play wear on the body, pickguard and fretboard. The frets are in excellent condition, as is the guitar overall.
