De Gibson Explorer was zijn tijd ver vooruit toen hij in 1958 werd geïntroduceerd, Er werden dat jaar slechts 19 verkocht, maar hij is in de jaren daarna erg populair geworden. De klassieke vintage Explorer-kenmerken zijn op zorgvuldige wijze opnieuw gecreeërd in dit Historic Reissue-model.
De gitaar is uitgerust met een ABR-1-brug en Stop Bar-staartstuk, een Korina-body, Custombucker-pickups, Korina-hals, Indisch palissander toets, twee volume- en één toonregeling met CTS-potmeters en een phone book condensator, gouden hardware, Kluson-tuners en een 4-laags slagplaat.
De gitaar wordt geleverd in een historisch correcte koffer met een klassieke bruine buitenkant en pluche roze binnenkant.
