Gibson L5 17 Inch Sunburst 1939

De Gibson L5 debuteerde in 1922 en werd ontworpen door de legendarische Lloyd Loar, de vader van de beroemde F5-mandoline. De L5 is misschien wel zijn meest invloedrijke creatie en wordt tegenwoordig algemeen beschouwd als de archetypische jazzgitaar.

Geproduceerd in het vooroorlogse tijdperk, is deze gitaar een van de eerste 17" body L5-modellen gebouwd met een 'parallel braced' bovenblad, voor meer projectie en kracht. Een van de hoogtepunten van deze gitaar zijn de opmerkelijk figured esdoorn achter- en zijkanten. Een mooi contrast wordt gevormd door de verkleurde body-binding en de witte kleur van de nieuwe binding om de toets. De hardware omvat een gecompenseerde verstelbare palissander brug, gegraveerd gouden staartstuk in deco-stijl en originele gouden Kluson Sealfast-stemmechanieken, met de zeldzame amberkleurige Catalyn-knoppen.

De toon is werkelijk uitstekend, met een opvallende helderheid, balans en kracht, en de diepe, open resonantie van een instrument dat gedurende vele decennia mooi is ingespeeld. Met sierlijke vooroorlogse looks, krachtige prestaties en een vertrouwd gevoel, is deze buitengewone gitaar een winnende combinatie voor de hedendaagse speler.

Natuurlijk zijn er wat dings en speelsporen te vinden, maar voor zijn leeftijd is hij ontzettend schoon! Hij verkeert nog steeds in excellente staat en wordt geleverd in een koffer met TFOA-paspoort.

Making it's debut in 1922, the Gibson L5 was created by the legendary Lloyd Loar, father of the renowned F5 mandolin. The L5 is perhaps his most influential creation, and is nowadays widely regarded as the archetypal jazz guitar.


Produced in the immediate prewar era, this guitar is one of the first 17" body L5 models built with a parallel braced top, for increased projection and cutting power. Among the highlights of this guitar are the remarkable figured maple back and sides. A nice contrast is formed by the discolored body binding and the white color of the newer binding around the fingerboard. The hardware includes a compensated adjustable rosewood bridge, engraved gold deco style tailpiece and original gold Kluson Sealfast tuners, with the rare amber Catalyn buttons.


The tone is truly fine, with remarkable clarity, balance and cutting power, and the deep, open resonance of an instrument nicely played-in over many decades. With graceful prewar looks, powerful performance, and a distinctly familiar feel, this extraordinary guitar is a winning combination for the contemporary player.


Of course there are some dings and playwear to be found, but for its age it is extraordinary clean! It is still in excellent condition and comes in a hardshell case with TFOA passport.
