Artur Lang Archtop Maple Spruce 1950s
Artur Lang wordt ook wel beschouwd als de grote "onbekende legende" onder Duitse archtop-gitaarbouwers, een echte "hidden gem". Artur werd in 1909 geboren in een van de beroemdste centra voor snaarinstrumenten in Europa, Schönbach. Daar ging hij naar de "School of Musical Instrument Making" en ging in de leer bij verschillende lokale meesterbouwers.
Na de Tweede Wereldoorlog vestigde hij zich uiteindelijk in Garmisch en begon hij opnieuw in zeer kleine aantallen gitaren te maken. Binnen slechts een paar jaar was hij in staat om een enorme reputatie te verwerven bij een kleine groep professionele gitaristen. Tussen 1949 en 1972 bouwde Artur ongeveer 800 gitaren in zijn eenmanswerkplaats.
Dit archtop-model stamt uit de jaren 1950 en is gebouwd met gevlamd esdoorn voor de achterkant en zijkanten en sparrenhout voor het bovenblad die tevens is voorzien van 'ringen' aan de zijkant. Deze ringen zijn niet puur esthetisch, maar dienen ook een functie; ze verstijven de zijkanten van de body, vergelijkbaar met de verstevigingen van een vliegtuigromp.
Na ruim 60 jaar biedt deze gitaar nog een fijne speelbaarheid en dito klank, zowel akoestisch als versterkt met behulp van de Shadow Zoller 'floating' pickup. Deze pickup kan worden bediend met een volumeknop, toonknop en toonschakelaar. Hij heeft ook de sporen die passen bij decennia lang spelen. Daarnaast is de hals ontdaan van de lak en heeft hij een andere brug en staartstuk. Al met al verkeert hij in goede conditie en wordt geleverd in een koffer met TFOA paspoort.
