De Academy Series is ontworpen met de zich nog ontwikkelende speler in het achterhoofd, het doel was een gitaar die zo comfortabel mogelijk zou aanvoelen.
Deze 12E met compacte Grand Concert body is de perfecte compagnon voor de fingerpicker of de gitarist met een lichte aanslag die een comfortabele gitaar wil hebben. De body van de de gitaar bestaat uit gelaagd sapele en een massief sparren bovenblad plus een feature die je meestal alleen ziet op premium instrumenten; een ingebouwde armrest waardoor het speelcomfort aanzienlijk wordt verhoogd.
De gepatenteerde Taylor hals heft een iets kortere 24.9" mensuur, 42.8 mm breedte bij de topkam en lichte snaren waardoor de gitaar heel licht speelt. De gitaar heeft ook een onboard ES-B element met digitale chromatische tuner, en wordt geleverd met stevige gigbag.

Taylor’s patented, slim-profile neck features an array of hand-friendly touches: a shorter 24-7/8-inch scale length, 1-11/16-inch nut width, low action, and light gauge strings, all of which contribute to a slinky handfeel. The lightweight guitar body, featuring layered sapele back and sides with a solid Sitka spruce top, boasts an ergonomic armrest that enhances the playing comfort for one’s picking arm.
The guitar was also voiced to be extra responsive to make the playing experience as relaxed as possible. The guitar comes with an onboard ES-B pickup that includes a built-in digital chromatic tuner, and comes with a sturdy lightweight gig bag.
