For generations, Conde Hermanos has been the go-to source for serious flamenco and classical guitarists, and this 1993 Felipe V No. 2 Blanca is a perfect example. With its cypress back and sides and spruce top, it has everything a good flamenco guitar needs: directness, clarity, and that characteristic dry, quick attack.
The family-owned Conde Hermanos was founded in Madrid in the early twentieth century and, over the decades, has built a solid reputation as one of Spain's leading guitar makers. The Felipe V series, named after the Madrid street where the workshop was located, was quickly recognized as reliable, well-playing instruments for the serious guitarist. The No. 2 is the mid-range model, combining craftsmanship and accessibility without compromising sound. Cypress is the traditional wood for flamenco blancas, and for good reason: it gives the guitar a bright, responsive tone with little sustain but plenty of directness, exactly what flamenco guitarists seek for rasgueados and fast passages. The cedar neck plays comfortably and, as you would expect from a guitar of this age, is already well-played.
Several dings can be found on the top and the binding, as well as on the back of the neck and the headstock. There are also dings on the sides of the soundboard, and buckle wear can be found on the back of the soundboard. The guitar is in very good condition, with the playwear expected of an instrument over thirty years old, and it features a piezo pickup for amplified playing. A versatile and honest flamenco guitar from a highly respected builder.
