Dupont MD50E 2005

This Maurice Dupont MD50E from June 2005 is a beautifully crafted Gypsy jazz guitar from one of France's most respected luthiers. The solid spruce top, laminated flamed maple body, and refined ebony details give this Selmer-style guitar the dry, punchy bark and penetrating projection that Manouche players love.

Maurice Dupont has been building Selmer-Maccaferri style guitars in France since the 1980s, and his instruments are considered among the finest Gypsy jazz guitars available worldwide, prized by players for their authenticity and craftsmanship. The MD50E carries on the tradition of the legendary 1930s Selmer guitars made famous by Django Reinhardt.

Featuring a solid spruce top and laminated flamed maple back and sides, this guitar combines clarity with the projection the genre demands. The flamed maple neck features a D-profile and an ebony fretboard with a 12" radius, a zero fret, and pearloid dot inlays, while the 670 mm scale length and 43.5 mm nut width provide that familiar Selmer feel. Maple binding, black-and-white purfling and rosette, an ebony bridge, three-on-a-plate tuners, and a brass tailpiece complete the package.

The guitar is in excellent condition, plays effortlessly, and sounds exactly as it should. After more than twenty years, the instrument still looks very clean; alongside the usual signs of play on the top and pickguard, the finish on the top is beginning to show its first characteristic fine checking lines.

This guitar has been carefully inspected for condition and playability, and subsequently set up by a luthier according to our Gold Standard. This ensures it arrives exactly as it should: sounding its best, effortless to play, and ready to be enjoyed from the very first note.
