Gibson Howard Roberts Fusion Sunburst 1990

This Gibson owes its name to Howard Roberts, the renowned American jazz guitarist, celebrated session musician, and educator who made his mark in the recording studios of Los Angeles. Gibson developed this model in close collaboration with Roberts and introduced the Fusion in 1979.

Where Roberts' earlier signature models were fully hollow with an oval soundhole, Gibson deliberately gave the Fusion a thinner semi-hollow construction with f-holes. The result is an instrument that combines the musical warmth of an ES-335 with the direct response and playing comfort of a Les Paul.

As soon as you pick up this Fusion, its comfortable playability stands out. The slim C-shaped neck profile and short scale length make chord work and playing high up the neck feel effortless. Equipped with two humbuckers, the guitar transitions seamlessly from mellow jazz chords to punchy, cutting lead tones.

This 1990 Gibson shows the expected signs of play for an instrument that is more than thirty years old, including some scratches and small dents scattered across the body and neck. The finish has also begun to develop the beautiful checking that vintage guitars naturally acquire over time.

Around the cutaway, the finish is lifting slightly in a few places on both the body and along the neck, which is visible. Aside from these cosmetic characteristics, the guitar remains in very good condition. It comes complete with its case and TFOA passport.
