Gibson L00 Small Sunburst 1933

The Gibson L00 was introduced in the early 1930s and has remained one of the most beloved acoustic guitar models ever since. The L00 was a great success during the Great Depression thanks to its affordable price and wonderful sound, and it is still one of Gibson’s most desirable small-bodied acoustics. This 1933 L00 features the small sunburst finish typical of that year and is a beautiful vintage guitar with a wonderfully dry sound.

The model is distinguished by its compact body, narrow waist and broad lower bout, which contribute to a surprisingly full and clear sound despite its modest size. Built with a solid spruce top and mahogany back and sides, the L00 delivers a rich, warm tone that is ideal for blues, folk and fingerstyle playing. Throughout the 1930s and 1940s, the L00 became a favorite among blues and folk artists, including legendary musicians such as Robert Johnson and Woody Guthrie, who valued the instrument for its versatility and expressive sound. Although production of the original L00 ended in the 1940s, the guitar has remained an iconic model.

This 1933 L00 has undergone several repairs to keep it in good playing condition. Repaired cracks can be found at the heel, heel block and shoulders, as well as on both sides and the back of the body. The neck was removed and reset during these repairs, and the guitar was also refretted. A crack in the bridge has been repaired as well. The finish has been touched up around the repaired areas and on the back of the neck, and the tuners have been replaced.

The guitar also shows the checking and playwear that give vintage Gibsons their beloved, well-worn appearance and character, something no modern replica can truly reproduce!
