This Goodall Special Reserve is a crossover guitar built around two truly exceptional tonewoods: a mastergrade German spruce top over solid Honduran rosewood back and sides. The Special Reserve name is reserved for the very best sets in Goodall's shop, and this instrument shows exactly why.
James Goodall has been building some of the most sought-after acoustic and classical guitars in the world since the early 1970s, with a reputation for meticulous, one-at-a-time craftsmanship. The Special Reserve series sits right at the top of his range, drawing on the woods he has set aside as the best of the best. This particular guitar is built with lattice bracing under the top: an approach favoured by high-end classical builders for the way it frees the top to move.
What sets this instrument apart are the exceptional tonewoods. The mastergrade German spruce top is tight-grained and remarkably even, while the solid Honduran rosewood back and sides show the deep, complex figure that makes the species so prized.
The appointments match that level: rosewood binding, an ebony-and-maple purfling, a padauk rosette and mother-of-pearl diamond inlays along the ebony fingerboard, all under a clean gloss finish.
On that foundation, the lattice bracing does its work: strong projection and a quick, responsive attack, with clear trebles and the warm, singing bass that rosewood is known for.
This instrument has been carefully inspected for originality, condition and playability, then set up to our Gold Standard by a luthier. We make sure it arrives in your hands exactly as it should: sounding its best, playing effortlessly and ready to be enjoyed from the very first note.
