Jaen Siracusa 17s La Luz Cognac

The 17-inch Siracusa La Luz is a refined interpretation of Fernando Jaén’s archtop design, developed to make the most of the acoustic properties of its larger body. The larger body provides greater projection and presence, while the electrical characteristics remain consistent with those of the smaller Siracusa models. The updated design features smoother contours, a deeper cutaway, a shorter body and a less pronounced waist. The tailpiece has also been adapted to suit the larger body, and the headstock has been enlarged while retaining Jaén’s distinctive concealed tuning machines.

The body combines a spruce top with beautifully figured flamed maple back and sides. The distinctive soundhole follows the bass-side waist, giving the guitar a recognisable appearance. The flamed maple neck has a comfortable C profile, a 25.5-inch scale length and an ebony fingerboard. The acoustic construction is complemented by a humbucker and a piezo pickup, each with its own volume and tone controls. This gives the Siracusa a broad tonal palette, ranging from the natural resonance of its acoustic body to amplified electric sounds.

Fernando A. Jaén is an independent luthier based in Cuenca, Spain. He builds traditional instruments, including semi-hollow and hollowbody archtops, while also developing distinctive original designs that he regularly presents at guitar shows. In addition to building his instruments, he designs his own electronics. The 17-inch Siracusa brings together this distinctive approach to design, refined woodworking and versatile tonal possibilities in a striking archtop.
