Joe Striebel Archtop 17 Hummingbird Natural 2005

Hand-built in Germany in 2005 by respected luthier Joe Striebel, this 17-inch archtop is a beautiful German boutique guitar. Named the Hummingbird, it pairs timeless jazz-box elegance with the kind of individual craftsmanship you only find in a truly hand-made instrument.

Joe Striebel has earned a strong reputation among archtop enthusiasts for his beautifully voiced instruments, and this one is no exception. A carved spruce top sits over a mahogany body, dressed with cream binding and multi-line purfling, while the mahogany neck carries an ebony fingerboard with striking abalone inlay and an elevated fingerboard extension floating over the top. Ebony appointments continue through the bridge and tailpiece, and a set of Schaller vintage tuners keeps everything holding steady. A pair of TV Jones humbuckers, wired to a simple volume, tone and three-way layout, gives the guitar its electric voice.

Played acoustically or plugged in, this Striebel offers exactly what a fine archtop should: a warm, woody, resonant core with a smooth, vocal top end that suits jazz and far beyond. The TV Jones pickups add clarity and punch, making it as comfortable comping in a trio as it is stepping out for a solo.

This 2005 Joe Striebel still looks very clean and is in excellent condition. It has picked up some light playwear on the body in the form of small scratches and dings. It comes supplied in a hardshell case, along with an ebony pickguard.
