Kauffmann 56 S Alder Two Tone Sunburst Heavy Aged

This Kauffmann 56 S wears a two tone sunburst finish under Kauffmann's heaviest level of aging, so it looks and feels like a guitar that has been played hard for decades. Underneath that worn finish sits an alder body with a maple neck and fingerboard, three Kauffmann single coils and a neck blend control that opens up sounds a standard layout can't give you.

Kauffmann Guitars builds its instruments in Alphen aan den Rijn in the Netherlands, with a simple motto: it's all about feel. As the name suggests, the 56 S takes its cue from the S style guitars of the mid fifties. Every guitar goes through what Kauffmann calls the Time Travel Treatment, an aging process that comes in different levels. This one received the Heavy treatment, with the finish worn through to the wood in the places where decades of playing would leave their mark.

The alder body gives the guitar a balanced, open voice, and the maple fingerboard adds a bright, snappy attack, so chords sound clear and single notes have plenty of bite. The Kauffmann SOW S pickups deliver the glassy single coil sound this style is loved for, and the neck blend control lets you add the neck pickup to the mix, for example alongside the bridge pickup for a fuller, rounder take on that classic bridge tone. The 9.5" radius sits nicely between vintage comfort and easy bending, so chords and lead lines feel equally natural, and the Gotoh 510 tremolo gives you smooth, expressive vibrato. It comes with its signed Kauffmann spec sheet.
