Gibson Les Paul SG Custom Cherry VOS 2010

This Gibson SG Custom in Cherry VOS from 2010 is a striking and unusual take on one of Gibson's most luxurious solidbody designs. It keeps Custom hallmarks such as the bound ebony fingerboard with pearl block inlays, but in an unusual specification: the hardware is silver rather than the Custom's traditional gold, and it carries two pickups in place of the usual three.

The SG Custom has always sat at the top of the SG line, a genuine showpiece of Gibson craftsmanship. This example is an intriguing variation on the theme: built with Custom styling but in a pared back specification, fitted with just two humbuckers, a Burstbucker 1 in the neck and a Burstbucker 2 in the bridge, in place of the usual three. It was most likely a special order by a dealer or customer who wanted the look of the Custom paired with the more familiar, straightforward voice of an SG Standard.

The result is really the best of both worlds. The mahogany body and neck give that unmistakable SG growl and bite, while the pair of Burstbuckers covers a wide, dynamic range, from warm and vocal at the neck to punchy and articulate at the bridge, controlled by two volumes, two tones and a three way switch. The slim mahogany neck, 24.75" scale and ebony fingerboard make for a fast, comfortable feel, and the Maestro Vibrola adds a touch of subtle vintage shimmer. The VOS finish gives it a lightly aged, played in look straight out of the case.

It is in excellent condition, showing some scratches on the back of the body and on the pickguard, but nothing that detracts from how it looks or plays. It includes its Certificate of Authenticity and a hardshell case.
