Johnny Cash's voice is instantly recognizable, with its deep, baritone timbre. And just as recognizable is his beloved black Martin D35. When Johnny passed away in 2003, country music lost one of its original rebels. The story of how the black D35 came into being reveals just how special Johnny Cash truly was.

The very first black Martin guitar was built at Johnny's request, but without the permission of C.F. Martin III because he absolutely refused to build a black Martin. Martin's president only discovered the guitar had been built when he saw Johnny play it. That D35 became Johnny's favorite guitar and his best friend on stage.

The Johnny Cash D35 is an exceptionally rare guitar, one you only see occasionally. It sounds and plays as fantastic as it looks. Besides the rosewood back and sides and Engelmann spruce top, this guitar features an ebony fingerboard with a star and "Johnny Cash" inlay, an abalone rosette, and the inside label signed by Johnny's son, John Carter Cash, and C.F. Martin IV. This is a Martin guitar as distinctive as its original owner. Johnny Cash was and is a legend, and this is your chance to play the exact same guitar.

The guitar was built in 2021 and is in excellent condition. There are a few dings on the top, and the pickguard has light scratches. Very minimal playwear can be found on the back of the body, and there is some glue residue near the heel cap. Finally, the bridge saddle has also been replaced. Otherwise, the guitar is very clean and comes with a TFOA passport in its original all-black TKL hardshell case.
