The Martin DSS16E 1935 Burst pairs a sloped shoulder dreadnought body with a gloss spruce top in a warm 1935 Burst finish and solid mahogany back and sides in a dark satin finish. It is a guitar with a full, woody voice and a relaxed feel, and with L.R. Baggs Element electronics on board it is ready for the stage as soon as you plug it in.
The DSS16E is a new addition to Martin's 16 Series for 2026. As the name of the finish suggests, its look draws its inspiration from the mid thirties, the era in which Martin's dreadnought became the big, powerful acoustic so many players know today. With its antique white binding, custom multi stripe rosette, faux tortoise pickguard and mother of pearl Style 18 inlays from the 1955 design, it combines that vintage character with Martin's modern building methods.
The forward shifted, scalloped X bracing lets the top move more freely, which gives the guitar extra resonance and a strong, round bass. The mahogany back and sides add warmth and a focused midrange, so chords sound full without getting muddy. The Modified Low Oval neck with its high performance taper feels slim and comfortable, and the 24.9" scale lowers the string tension a little, which makes bends and chord shapes feel easy. Together with Martin's precise fretwork, it makes for a guitar that plays effortlessly and sounds clear in every position. It comes with a Martin softshell case.
This guitar has been carefully inspected for condition and playability, then set up to our Gold Standard by a luthier. We make sure it arrives in your hands exactly as it should: sounding its best, playing effortlessly and ready to be enjoyed from the very first note.
