Powers Electric A Type Cabernet Red

When we first saw Powers Electric's guitars during our trip to Taylor, we knew immediately: we had to have them.

Most people will know Andy Powers primarily from his role at Taylor Guitars. In 2014, Andy joined Taylor as a Master Builder, and ever since he has focused on refining the designs of Taylor's acoustic guitars. This has resulted in a series of tone-enhancing innovations, including his V-Class bracing, along with many award-winning models. But what Taylor fans may not know is how deeply rooted Andy's passion is in the world of electric guitars.

Alongside his work at Taylor, Andy took on a new solo project: his own line of electric guitars. Initially he wanted to design an electric guitar that reflected the character and style of Taylor, but according to Taylor founder Kurt Listug that limited the potential he saw in Andy's project. So Andy chose to forge his own path, drawing inspiration from his other great passions: cars and surfing. From that combination the first Powers Electric guitar was born: the A-Type.

This A-Type features an Urban Ash body with a solid maple top. It wears a Cabernet Red finish with elegant details such as a firestripe pickguard and unique Delrin knobs. Andy's own CamTail vibrato and a high carbon steel bridge with an ebony saddle are paired with two warm-voiced FF42 single-coil pickups for a rich, hi-fi sound.

The guitar comes in a beautiful leather soft case that perfectly completes the retro feel of Powers Electric.

This guitar has been carefully inspected for condition and playability, then set up to our Gold Standard by a luthier. We make sure it arrives in your hands exactly as it should: sounding its best, playing effortlessly and ready to be enjoyed from the very first note.
