When Greg Deering first introduced the Sierra, he kept the cost down by keeping the cosmetics simple. The money was put into the pot assembly. He wanted to build a top professional banjo at a price that he could have afforded when he was a kid.

With the implementation of new technology Deering has been able to make the Sierra exquisitely beautiful without raising the price. Inspired by the art work of the old masters of the Boston banjo era from the turn of the last century, the Sierra is also a visually appealing instrument.
